Sometimes heart rhythm issues are mistaken for panic attacks. Basically the pacemaker in your heart short circuits and your heart beats out of your chest (called PSVTs). It has a rapid onset and can be triggered by dehydration (alcohol) fatigue and a couple of other random things. They can last a few minutes and make you feel like you are dying. They get diagnosed sometimes when people go to ER and have the panic attack while on the EKG machine.

Next time you get them try deep coughing, massaging your carotid artery or bear down like you are going to the bathroom. If that helps it to go away you may have this issue and not a "mental" panic attack.

Check out PSVT and Panic Attack on Google.

well, everyone is different

but talking it out and gaining a new perspective on life may be what you need.

twice a year, the community leadership foundation does a workshop called "Life Authorship"

if you fully participate, you'll get a fresh look at the world. I thought it was awesome. I wanted to study with a group and it was required to take that workshop.
I likely would have taken a pass had it not been required. actually took authorship and partnership. I'll never forget it.

Take some Yoga classes and increase your masturbation frequency....

That worked for my cousin.

I actually had a few bad episodes of PSVT and I had a lot of tests done and they could find nothing wrong with my heart. I even had a holster monitor for a month and all they found was that I was also getting about 800 PVCs a day. Of course I never had a SVT episode while hooked onto a machine. They assume that it was it is because how I described it is exactly the symptoms of a SVT but it is also the exact symptoms of panic attacks. I have had many panic attacks and an SVT rhythm feels a lot worse. Just the rhythm. It doesn't feel like your heart feels when you just ran, it feels like your heart is flipping. SVT can also be triggered by anxiety and stress, but only if you have the electrical imbalances that cause it. So I've been getting my anxiety under control to see if that helps my SVT. I get SVT maybe once every year or 2 years so it will be a while so see if my anxiety is causing my SVT.

Also, if your heart starts racing and then stops racing within a few seconds, it is probably PSVT. During my first episode it random went really fast and the school nurse was checking my pulse when it stopped. It went from 160 to 85 in less than 5 seconds

If your heart stops racing after you calm down and it gradually decreases the bpm, it is probably a panic attack.

DO NOT massage your carotid artery. This should only be done by a doctor and in a location where emergency intervention is available. Deep breathing and coughing is ok. You have to cough like you really mean it. Also do not put ice packs on your eyes if some one tells you to do this as it can be as dangerous as carotid artery massage. Seriously!!!

Hey sorry I meant to update you sooner...

I finally decided to get on a low dose of klonopin(SP?). In fact the doc told me to take two a day and I've only been taking one...

The panic attacks have just about gone away, the stress and anxiety hasn't.. That probably is a direct result of my job situation but it's manageable, and often, not an issue..

I wanted to also thank everyone again for their input in this thread because at the time, I was in a really dark place... I'm not the type to vent on facebook so I guess I chose this place as my outlet and I'm glad I did...

I'm gonna be away from my phone for an hour or so but I'll be back later on in case anyone had any other questions/input

(it goes good with medication )

I'm really happy for you, bro. I admit I have anxiety attacks and I hate the feeling. You can't breathe and you feel like there is no oxygen in the air.

And it's an uncomfortable situation when you can't explain to someone exactly what it's like

If it gets really bad for you I would recommend medication..

I think my attacks were a little different than yours.. For me, I would just start feeling really dizzy and uncomfortable. All I would want to do is leave wherever the hell I was at and go home. Sometimes even that would not work, it was always always always an uneasy feeling almost like I was dying

I recommend a healthy diet, 30-45 min of cardiovascular exercise inside your target heart rate 4 days per week with 2-3 days of light weight training, practice yoga and meditate. Do these things before trying any dangerous medications.

I eat right, work out six days a week, practice yoga and pilates, and I STILL get them every so often.

A good friend of mine who is very big into self motivation and the power of positive thinking recommended me two books to read... The Secret and Ask and it is Given.. I've started reading the first one already and it's put a lot of things into perspective

No problem.. From your posts here you seem to be an intellectual type, are you a lawyer of some sort??

If you enjoy reading I think you'll like this book... It's a rather simple, but intriguing read
