Does she have facebook and/or Instagram and all that shite? If so, do you have access and passwords to them?
if you are worried about your 14 y/o having a laptop in her room at night and you're looking for FB/IG...

Being too strict now will just push them away once they are old enough to do whatever they want.
My parents are great people but I have lived in a different state from them since I was 18 for similar reasons.

she represents the parent, not the 14 y/o

Nope. Chat rooms and hard dicks don't have a bed time.

Also it's school property and they will have access to all info on the laptop if they don't have a keystroke program on it already.school work only.

Good Deal...

I don't have a daughter so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but to me as a parent it makes me wonder what they are wanting to do in private that is such a big deal. If it's truly nothing wrong, do it in a common area.
What's the most innocent thing it could possibly be? Staying up late chatting with a friend? That's still no good on a school night IMO.

Think she's going to take cooter pics?

I would just really really impact in her that anything what so ever that is sent on the internet is out there forever. Once you made that digital file and took it off of your device, hell even on your device it can be hacked (see the fappening) I would definitely want them to know that it can hurt them forever and hope and pray they do not bring up the Kardashian or Hilton defense.
It's scary. I'm glad the schools teach kids at a young age the dangers of the internet. There are so many apps now that speed up IRL contact and chatting, that I would hope he/she knows the dangers of meeting strangers.
Now if they are just doing what we are doing now, and wasting time on forums and watching cat videos and shite, then I see no problem. It's just the dark side the bothers me. The creepy predators out there.

frick that shite. Teenage aren't trustworthy and you shouldn't treat them as such. Ops daughter is just gonna snapchat and tinder if he let's her have technology
THIS.
Like someone said earlier, trust is earned and it certainly takes longer than 2 teenage years to earn it. Some of you think strict parenting isn't a good idea? I've seen too many parents befriend their children which ends in disaster and an adulthood of underachieving. Ultimately, parent how you see fit. Who cares what other parents are doing and who knows if the 14 year old isn't just saying that shite to make you feel bad? Kids are sneaky...

Just monitor her computer. No deleting the history, and have her text messages archived and sent to you by the phone company. And let her know you're doing that, last thing you want is documented proof that you received pics of some 15 year olds new nut hairs

How do they earn it if you don't give them the opportunity? Serious question.

As a teacher who has taught that age group for years at a school that issues computers, don't let her keep it in her room. Trust me.

I have a young daughter. Trust your gut instincts. You have an obligation to keep her safe.
