THIS.
Like someone said earlier, trust is earned and it certainly takes longer than 2 teenage years to earn it. Some of you think strict parenting isn't a good idea? I've seen too many parents befriend their children which ends in disaster and an adulthood of underachieving. Ultimately, parent how you see fit. Who cares what other parents are doing and who knows if the 14 year old isn't just saying that shite to make you feel bad? Kids are sneaky...
re: Toyota Highlander OTD prices?
Posted by WhoDatTigerStripes on 7/20/15 at 9:31 pm to Polar Pop
We bought a black on black 2015 Highlander XLE in April. We went back and forth with 4-5 different dealers via email to settle on a price.
Wife was able to get them down to 35k with running boards and a large plastic mat for the back when the 3rd row is down. We love it so far.
ETA: Allstar Toyota is who we ended up buying from.

re: Purchasing vs Leasing Vehicle
Posted by WhoDatTigerStripes on 5/27/15 at 11:30 pm to RollTide MJ
We recently traded in a Jeep Wrangler and bought a 2015 Highlander XLE, we plan on keeping for 6-8 years. Credit scores are 760 and 780. Shop around for rates, credit unions had the lowest. We scored 1.94%. Our note is $440/month.
After a month, we absolutely love the highlander. The Toyota dealerships around Baton Rouge were all willing to deal via Internet. We got them down through emails to the price we wanted, walked in and signed papers.

Have you done any negotiating with the Lexus NX200t?
About to start looking at cars and this one is on the list, not sure how much Lexus would be willing to negotiate on a base model

Ok thanks, that's something else I didn't know.

Thanks for your advice. We don't have any other debt. We pay cash each semester for her schooling... That's the side I was leaning toward, she brought up using the 10k for the land. We will go that route.
Just wanted another opinion. Thanks. Do you recommend we roll over into traditional or Roth ira?

Combined about 120k. She's in grad school, so she's only working part time. Graduates in 1 year, her salary will double. House we are building is one we can afford with our current salaries.

27 and 26.
That's all I have in retirement. The 10k is pre tax, 403b is what it has been going into.
Yes, without touching our savings (10k) that'll put us at 80% and keep the mortgage monthly payment decent.
If you recommend rolling all of it over, which Roth would you recommend?
Sorry we are both idiots with this stuff but trying to learn more. Our careers are in the medical field so this stuff is unfortunately, completely foreign.

Retirement help
Posted by WhoDatTigerStripes on 4/3/15 at 10:18 pm
Switching jobs... I have a total of a little over $24,000 in employer retirement plan. $10,000 is my contributions and $14,000 from them. We purchased land to build our forever home about 6 months ago.
We paid $66,000 for the land and currently owe $43,000. Goal was to get the land paid down as low as possible... At least to $10,000 -15,000 before we start to build.
Should we use the 10,000 I contributed to my retirement plan and pay down the land to build sooner? then, roll the $14,000 into Roth? Or roll it all into Roth, as using that $10,000 is just dumb?
Current situation... Living with inlaws. House sold faster than we imagined. Any serious advice would be appreciated.

re: Have you ever witnessed a fist fight at work?

Yes. Two female nurses in the nurses station one night. All over another co-worker who apparently got them both pregnant. Needless to say, they were fired on the spot.

I have a stinky basset too. I recently bought burt's bees shampoo and conditioner. It's baking soda based. It's worked well this past week.

re: Dog owners- Do you take your dog to Dog Daycare during the day?
Posted by WhoDatTigerStripes on 2/16/15 at 2:53 pm to Pettifogger
To each his own. We bring our dog to daycare as well. We are gone for 13 hours on work days. It's easier for everyone involved. He is crate trained, but if you can afford to pay daycare and have your pet socialize with other pups as well as exercise, it is a win-win.
