Leach doesn't just want to see the College Football Playoff expand, he wants to bring it to March Madness levels. "Sixty-four," he said when asked by ESPN how many teams he'd put in the field.

"Why not?" According to Leach -- who has discussed the 64-team idea before -- this is how it could work: -- Reduce the regular season to 10 games -- Round 1 of the playoffs is a home-and-home series -- The existing bowls would cover the other games, and the champion would be required to play 16 games -- one more than Ohio State and Oregon played last season.

“It’s remarkably easy,” Leach said. “If you had 64, there wouldn’t be a lot of debate. ... It would be indisputable that it was settled on the field and somebody that wins playoff games accordingly deserves to be champion and there’s no debate. It would be great fun to watch -- just like it is at all the other levels.”

The pirate has spoken. I wonder if Wazzu could make a 64 team playoff?

I wouldn't mind 8. Power 5 winners and 3 at large. Can't agree with Leach on this one. Cool guy though, impressed what he has done with Wazzu

Won't work for football.

I would like to see 8 though.

Would there be a break between regular season and postseason?

Because if half the entire frickin field makes it the regular season is worthless. I'm sorry, but after the regular season if you're ranked 60th, you don't deserve a shot at the national title.

Top 8.

5 AQ's from conference champs.

BCS computers pick highest remaining 3 teams.

BCS computers rank teams 1-8.

Top 4 teams play first round playoff games on New Years AT HOME.

Round 2 on January 7th at rotating big 4/5 bowl games.

Round 3 title game on 14th at rotating location.

He is right about that, it would be awesome to watch.

Problem is, the awesomeness of the regular season, which is what sets CFB apart IMO, goes away completely.

It's amazing how almost everyone in this country is convinced a single elimination playoff system is by far the best way to determine a champion

he's advocating killing the regular season for god's sake. is that what people want?

Bowls suck. The El Paso Weedeater Bowl is on! Awesome!

Playoffs will happen eventually, but it will probably be 16 teams.

Too much wear and tear on the kids bodies at that point.

You would have to lower the reg season to 10 games for it to work, otherwise injuries and fatigue would be too big of an impact

It's because that is the only way he could make it to the playoff.

Well to counter his point, there are more reasons than I can count why it wouldn't work and it would NOT be easy

8 would work though
