Also, Javier Baez returned to a rehab game with the AZL Cubs and went 1 for 3 with no K's.

The big story, as mentioned above was Javier Baez. Baez looked a bit tentative in his first AB but that didn't last long. He did get on in his first AB on an error and came around to score. In the second AB, he ripped a line drive single to LF and then grounded out in his last AB (as shown in the video in the beginning of this article). He also made a nice defensive play in the field, charging a slow roller and throwing an off balance strike to first, though the runner did beat it out.

I've got a good feeling about this series. We've actually been hitting the ball a little better of late, and we got to throw the top of our rotation at them. Too bad they counter with theirs.

Really need a sweep against Philly. Need something like 7-3 in the next 10 against Philly, Colorado, and Milwaukee before we play at Pittsburgh.

Happ and others taking BP on Periscope. Sharma needs to learn how to take videos.

ugh. looked like strike 3...not called...2 run double. Typical.

Buddy texted me on my way home today saying he had an extra and I just needed to buy him a beer, just came to late to take advantage
Like that last bunt attempt by Ross.
Random question. Have any of you ever seen a guy step out and take a hack at an intentional walk pitch? Seems like it could be easily done in some cases, as those pitches come really close to the strike zone.

As has been said in Chicago all too often since 2007...freaking Soriano!

This offense sucks right now. 3 runs against these slapdicks? Good grief.

IIRC, Cal Ripkin did it but that was a hell of a long time ago. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he did.

We still should have won that game though.

Miggy did it with the marlins for a winning run (I think). Seems like will Clark did it a couple times too. I recall him doing it for a hit but he stepped on the plate and was called out.
As for the cubs part...can we still call this a slump or is this just the offense?

I think it's time to be honest and say this team is good. And certainly building to great things but right now a real honest internal conversation needs to happen that is us trading for anything other than using cash worth it. I don't want to over react but we are playing trash teams and struggling desperately.

I trust the front office knows that it would be absolutely insane to give up anything for a rental. At this point, I think the best bet is to stand pat unless you can get someone with at least 2 additional years of control. I don't want them to mortgage the future for a chance at a 1 game playoff.

Guys have good days, no hitters happen, but this Cubs offense is atrocious. I'm surprised it hasn't happened in another game by now, and wouldn't be shocked if it happens again this season.
I know this team is young, but at what point should we start questioning the coaching of the hitters? Other teams have figured out just about everyone on the roster with scouting and still they don't respond. Too much talent out there to be this impotent at the plate.

I've been thinking that too. Too many guys are not hitting and some are having career lows.

In one breath you can't want all the young guys up in the bigs and in the other breath be frustrated when they struggle. Most of these guys spent minimal time in the minors so they are forced to make their adjustments at the major league level. They are going to struggle and it may take some til 2016 to figure it out. You guys need to relax
Look at a guy like Roughned Odor for the Rangers. He was terrible, got sent down, figured it out, now he's raking. That's the progression most of these young guys go through. Joc Pederson has been terrible for the last month or two. George Springer went through a terrible stretch. Correa will go through one. It happens with all young players not named Trout

100% agree, but the way that this team is built will invite no hitters in the future. High strike out teams are the easiest to shut down.

I expect the young guys to struggle. I'm frustrated with the likes of Fowler and Castro. They have both shown that they are better than how they are performing this year. Not to mention the fact that Rizzo is struggling now too.
