I just got a Pressure Cooker through the Amazon Prime Day but I have never ever used one.

I was thinking of starting with a pot roast.

Anyone have any recommendations on using pressure cookers?

Any recommendations of things to make in a pressure cooker that are better when cooked under pressure than in a typical slower cooker or stove top?

I don't know where to begin.

Black beans, takes about 45 minutes from start to finish just be sure to soak the beans overnight before cooking them.

My mother in law makes a pretty legit chili by pressure cooking a brisket to be used in the chili. Not sure the process but it is pretty damn delicious.

Chef Steps uses a pressure cooker in many of its recipes. I've been wanting to try their banana bread recipe. They caramelize the bananas in a pressure cooker before adding it to the mix.

Just as a tip

I make baked potatoes in mine pretty often. Cook them for 10-15 minutes depending on size and they are pretty much ready

I actually made this in my pressure cooker for dinner last night. I have made it before. It is amazing.

Pressure Cooker Kalua Pig

One change to the recipe is that I added an onion and 3 parsnips to the pot before cooking the pork. I added fresh green beans to the cabbage.

Cooker size determines what you can/can't cook. We've done a 10 lb turkey and a 9 lb Boston butt. Chuck roasts, ribs, corned beef, etc all come out fork tender. I can boil 5 lbs of peanuts in 35 min that come out perfect. Expect some trial and error.

I advise also getting a Jaccard mechanical meat tenderizer (48 blade) to take meat to an even higher level of tender.

I got one from one of the cooking dhows that is on cable. I got it last year and the thing can't blow up. I has many safety features. The timer is digital. When the other half wakes up tomorrow I' going to ask her the cabinet she put it in. I'll put the name on the internet and you can do a google search on it. Trust me it won't explode.

I did that the first time I cooked with it. Immediately threw it in the trash after.

Mine is an electric so I think it would be just about impossible to make it blow up.

Thanks for the link to the pot roast, that's what I plan on making tonight. The only problem is many recipes I find are for old fashioned stove top pressure cookers. I suppose my electric works pretty much the same but there does seem to be some differences with timing. Trial and error seems the way to go but I hate to waste food like that, especially a $20 roast.

The recipe linked says you cook it for about 30 minutes then another 15 with the carrots and potatoes. I guess that sounds about right but some recipes have said as long as 90 minutes. I can always pull out the carrots and potatoes and go longer with the roast until it is falling apart.

Modern, quality PC's have a bunch of safety features...it's not impossible to explode one, but you'd have to try really hard and bypass some of the built in pressure release mechanisms.

My fave PC items is a corned beef brisket.

My mom's ceiling still has remnants of purple hull peas from when the weight blew off 30 years ago. I had no idea peas could shoot through that tiny hole.
