The final approval hearing for the settlement? Thursday, July 16th. As in, two days from now.

With the lawsuit behind them, EA Sports could immediately start working toward the continuation of the series — something it has already publicly stated it wants to do.

The biggest hurdle standing in the way is that the NCAA still does not allow players to receive compensation from their likeness and EA Sports would be opening itself up to another lawsuit if it didn’t pay said players.

But a solution is much easier than it appears because EA Sports doesn’t need to use current players’ “likeness” for them to end up in the actual game. The solution is crowdsourcing.

I didn't know the settlement was only $40 million total, spanning back to 2003 for players that claimed it, while EA made an average of $80 million per year on the franchise.

Even if they started tomorrow it would take at least 2 years, even piggybacking off Madden, to really make an NCAA game from scratch. Unless of course they have had people covertly working on it, which I doubt knowing EA.

solution is "crowdsourcing"

what does that even mean? they just need to make an NFL blitz game and be done with it

Had no idea any of this was the case, didn't know there was any hope for the series.

Now I have a throbbing clue

This is great news. But I thought having the actual school was a part of the issue as well.

Yea, but didn't a few schools and maybe the PAC-12 take back their license from being in the game?

Hope this actually happens. Been wanting to see this franchise return and return on the PS4.

I cannot wait for everyone in this thread to bitch about this game when it's released.

The biggest problem is that unless I am mistaken, the licensing landscape has changed dramatically in the downtime.

They can't just get NCAA licensing to get all the schools anymore. Conferences will want their cut directly.

This is purely speculative but how long do you think it would take another developer say 2K to build a football game? Like could they get the licences and build a game before next summer? Because they're acquiring colleges for NBA 2k, so if they just made a football game they could use all of the schools just w/out conferences and players pretty much.
