This might not affect oil prices as much as I thought it would. The deal might have been mostly priced in.
Regardless, this oil won't hit the market until at LEAST the end of 2016.

In comparison to other countries in that area, Iran is decently developed. Their population is also not nearly as radical/extreme on average as their ruling parties.
Opening up trade lines allows further westernization/trade and undermining of the ruling parties vilification of the West.
Finally, aligning your economic interests has long term benefits for security

This. Iranians are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Tourism is a big part of their local economy. It's a shame that we believe everything our media forces down our throats.

You watched that Anthony Bourdain episode too huh?

The travel subreddit has a lot of people sharing stories and pictures from trips there. If Americans could visit I would be there in a second.

My comments are rooted in purely selfish reasons i.e. oil prices

Examples of radical Germany before 1930:
1517
1701-1750
1860-71
1914

Germany was developing more rapidly than its neighbors in the 1930's, and its population was not fanatical Nazis. In fact the Nazi Party never won a majority in a popular election until after opposition parties were banned. Once the Nazis banned opposition parties they routinely won in excess of 98% of the popular vote.

My apologies. I didn't read carefully enough.

Agreed. The guys I use for my home's HVAC unit are mostly Iranian expats, they're great and very professional.

To compare Iran to 1930s Germany is pretty absurd. The economic environment is in no way similar, the nationalistic fervor is completely different and clear cultural differences.
You could similarly compare Iran's more advanced society, population less extreme than ruling parties, religious backed leader and ruling party that lost "popular vote" to George Bush's presidency 2001-2004
It would fit just as much as 1930s Germany

No worries. Only the number one state sponsor of terror. Killing gays. Honor killings. Apostasy killings. Beheadings. Stonings. Islam has ruined Persia. Any majority Muslim country won't get my money on any extended travel trip. I'll bet those poor tourists in Tunisia thought everything would be fine also about visiting there.

You do realize that Iran is the same country whose president and "Supreme leader" publicly denounced 9/11 attacks and had moments of silence at soccer games in the capital right? They had candle light vigils for the victims
Iran is not Saudi Arabia. They have made steps to move past stoning etc.
Also, look at Turkey which is a Muslim country. They are perfectly safe, not radical and secular.
The Levant has been historically one of the most unstable, radical regions of the world since before the Romans. To blame Islam would be like blaming Christianity for the problems in the Balkans
