Didn't he say wood floors? Even cheap wood floors cost more than $2.00 when you add in materials and tools needed to install.
Cabinets and countertops for $6K is doable if he orders some of those put together yourself cabinets from China and tops them off with Formica.

Oh man...someone educate Mud on the FL real estate market.
FL still has years to sell through all of the foreclosure inventory in that state and that's only if they were to stop taking on new inventory which hasn't happened. For that reason alone I would never make any future plans like this. It's a roll of the dice even more so than other parts of the country except maybe AZ and Cali because of what happened in 2007.

It's doable to do the work yourself and get in for close to $15K but he seems to have champagne taste on beer budget. It would take knocking the flooring down to a laminate, particle board cabinets, the cheapest paint Sherwin Williams makes, etc.

I understand. I know a suppler that can get us a good deal on paint, flooring, and cabninetry.
