Bullet Points:
Stressed how important getting QPon/DC/Cole during the season were. Says they're pretty much the FA signings this year.
Locker Room has a very nice vibe and guys enjoy being here.
Whole org enjoyed how well the guys played during that 25-16 stretch in the 2nd half. Guys enjoy each other and continuity is ultra important.
Asik/Ajinca compliment each other very well. Asik takes a lot of pressure off of AD and allows him to roam. Points out the poor rebounding prior to his(Asik's) arrival.
Ajinca wasn't ready for the NBA physically a few years back. He did a great job honing his craft overseas and this team wouldn't have won some games without him.
Dante has brought a lot that hasn't shown up in the box score. Credits his energy/toughness.

This is why I don't get a lot of the Asik hate. Asik's skill set and game allows AD to play well defensively without the grind of post defending on almost every possession. This in turn allows AD to be more effective on the offensive end.
Obviously AD's leap forward this past season is due in large part to his approach to training and getting better in the offseason, but I feel like so many are willing to totally ignore how having a paint clogger/under the basket rebounder allows AD to play in a style that is much more offensively explosive and efficient.
While not dramatic, AD's PER and per game box score would be significantly lower without a player like Asik on the roster. He'd still play great on both ends, but he wouldn't be able to put up the nightly MVP caliber performances with a guy like Steimsma or J Smith at the 5. I think that has been largely ignored in the Asik valuation.

I think most people believe we could get the same performance from someone a little cheaper. I think organizational stability is worth the slight overpay asik will receive - not to mention his deal becomes a LOT more palatable once the new cap kicks in. I'm happy with what he offers. Sometimes I feel he tries to do too much. When he sticks to his wheel house he is extremely effective. Rebound, protect the paint, clean up the off boards and cushion AD from abuse - those are his responsibilities. If he does that, he is worth every penny.

The fact that you disagree lends credence to my statements.

if they'd had cap space there were several available
since they didn't, asik was the only option

And yet nobody has ever been able to name a single player that fits that criteria.

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence, even if the other side of the fence is an empty asphalt parking lot.

What Asik does well doesn't show up readily on the stat sheet, and what he does poorly makes people question how he's even in the league. There also a gross underrating both of the importance of rebounds to a team, and the difference between a good rebounder and a top 5 rebounder. Even though I get the value of what he does well, I do question the opportunity cost of a center that can't finish and a team full of penetrating guards. If we don't get Houston Asik this year, we'll probably regret signing him to such a long deal, even if it was structured to be able to stretch him after 3 years.

You say what Asik does well doesn't show up on the stat sheet? What about the bad things he does that don't turn up on the stat sheet?
Dropped passes that lead to lost possessions, fumbled balls out of bounds or right into the defenders hands, and rim rejections. Besides actual TO's that SHOW UP on the stat sheet, these 3 things that I mentioned happened Every. Single. Game. this season and DID NOT appear at the stat sheet.
When Asik gets the ball in the post, it's a TO, what is the opportunity cost here? 14 other players that could get a shot besides Asik is a huge opportunity cost of the offensive end. This situation will only happen though if Asik somehow catches the ball. When he fumbles the ball out of bounds, into the defense, or when it deflects off his hands, it DOES NOT appear on the stat sheet, bc if it did Asik would average over 5 TOs a game and less than 8 points.
Asik does not have full possession in these instances so you can't statistically give him a TO.
The argument for Asik having a low TO rate is one of the worst that can be made bc that's by far his worst flaw on offense, is turning the ball over and opportunity cost lost.

I didn't want this to turn into ANOTHER asik thread
I think the spacing in Gentry's system will help unclog things for asik. The finishing in traffic was the problem.
He was a bit better in the 2nd half after the addition of Cole and especially QPon due to their shooting abilities.

I know what Asik brings and blah blah all that, he basically adds another 10 mil to ADs contract since he's just there to "make it easy" for AD right? But, when people say the good things he does on D don't show up on the stats without mentioning the bad things he does that don't show up, they aren't making a fair argument bc he does just as many bad things that don't show up than the good things that don't show up.

And yet, still to name a realistic center that we could have gotten in his place.
Whether or not you like Asik is irrelevant.

Instead of overpaying Asik like we did I would have rather overplayed a center who won't destroy this team on offense, and I mean destroy bc that's what Asik does. Give me Koufas, Lopez, Kanter, Tyson chandler to name a few. I would have prefered to over pay any of those guys instead of giving Asik miney to sit on the damn bench in the 4th quarter.

Except you had no way to acquire them

So you have no idea how NBA contracts work? Got it.
