Bastards threw me under the bus today
I drove 3 hours to Portland to buy a Surface Pro 3. Oregon has no sales tax so I figured I could save about $160 by buying my Surface there.
Anyway I am checking out and my debit card is being declined. I thought it was because I was trying to make a purchase in another state, so I call the Wells Fargo customer service.
Turns out I was being denied because my debit card has a limit of $500 per day. Fair enough. I have an emergency only credit card that I never use with a $900 limit, so I put $900 of the bill on that. Was still $530 short that I needed to put on my debit card. The limit was $500, so the $530 balance was $30 over my daily limit. I asked them if they could waive the limit because of my circumstances and they refused. I escalated to a manager and she also refused.
I told them I drove 3 hours to Oregon to make this purchase and they gave no fricks. They were willing to throw me under the bus over $30 dollars. I told them I was getting a new bank on Monday because of this.
Thankfully the Microsoft Store gave me a small discount to bring the price to where I only needed to use $499 on the debit card. If not I would have driven 3 hours for nothing.
frick Wells Fargo not helping me out in an emergency situation. I am closing my account with them on Monday and going elsewhere. Any recommendations welcome.

If you or a direct ancestor served in the military, USAA is far and away the best to go.

Saved like $160 bucks
Washington Sales tax is like 11%
Oregon is 0

Capital One. Former Wells Fargo as well.

More like $100 unless you drive a Prius. What a shitty way to spend and entire Saturday afternoon.
To get back on topic. Just go to Chase and call it a day.

With USAA, I can change my debit card's daily spending limit amount online or with their app.
I'll never switch banks again.
Tip, USAA offers free checking and savings accounts to anyone.

Anyone? I thought the individual or their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc., had to be a service member?

Anyone. To obtain services for investments, insurance, remote deposit online, etc. an active or veteran of military that can pass down membership to you is needed.

USAA if you can get it.
But if you can't, I recommend:
Ally for most everything. Low fees. Very convenient. Refunds ATM fees.
+ Local credit union to draw out larger amounts of cash if you need it. Credit unions typically have the lowest fees.

Nobody "threw you under the bus". You're a victim of poor planning, entirely self-inflicted.
You made an approximately six hour, 350 mile round trip to "save" $160? I already know you're dumb, because anyone without their head completey up their arse would have had their finances in order before driving 175 miles. Does your time have any value at all?

Pretty much any local credit union.

I'll also give a nod to USAA, if you can get it. Frick Capital One or Chase. They will throw you under the bus as well.

I don't understand why your debit card has a limit of 500 bucks per day. As long as you have the cash in your account, why is there a limit?
I've never had that problem with my bank. Now, I can only withdraw 400 bucks at time from an ATM but I can spend until I'm broke with my card.

Ever heard of Amazon? No sales tax and they deliver for free.

I don't understand this story at all. 6 hours to save 100 bucks? 500 limit? Not using Amazon? Not having a normal credit card to just pay for it? OP must be like 15.

I've always had good service with Wells Fargo.
You need to plan better.
