New Standalone ‘Batman’ Movie Confirmed

There have been rumors swirling for a while about a new standalone Batman film but today we can finally confirm that Ben Affleck will be co-writing, directing and starring in one! Deadline reports that Affleck will be co-writing the script alongside Geoff Johns, who is the Chief Creative Officer of DC and also the writer of The Flash and Arrow episodes.
The site also states that a script could be completed before the end of the summer, just in time for Affleck to move on to direct Live By Night this Fall.
What makes this turn of events really interesting is that, according to our sources, Affleck’s initial contract for playing Batman did NOT include any solo Batman films. The existing one supposedly only entailed Batman v Superman, a few Justice League films, and appearances in the films of others (namely Suicide Squad). It makes you wonder how much extra, be it money or a production deal, that Ben is getting for this?
Supposedly, the standalone Batman film will take place after the events in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League: Part One, the latter of which comes out November 17th, 2017.

Who will the villain be?
I've always thought Tim Roth would make an incredible Mad Hatter. Could be really dark. Chris Waltz would also be good.

I think he'd be great as a darker version of the Riddler too.

Cliffs:
Ben Affleck is rich, will continue to be more so.

BA should be able to direct the hell out of a Batman story.

That's ridiculously far out, however this is pretty great news. I predict an awesome movie on the way.

A good riddler without the gay overtones.

I'm hoping they go with some lesser knowns.
Hush
Dr Simon Hurt
Black Mask
Hugo Strange
These are all villains that go directly after Batman, Bruce Wayne, or both. It would be refreshing to see Batman as the target (this is what made The Dark Knight a great movie).
I would also like to see a darker take on the Riddler that emphasizes Batman's detective skills. (Think of the movie Se7en with the Riddler in the John Doe role)

I agree. That's what made TDKR less enjoyable: Bane going after the entire city. I'd rather see more 1v1 actual comic book fight stuff (and obviously more Batman, which TDK trilogy was really lacking in)

That sounds awesome

If I ran DC, I would adapt The Killing Joke and cast Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. Of course, with Jared Leto playing the Joker in Suicide Squad, that may not be possible.
Actually, what I really would do would be to pry Benedict Cumberbatch out of doing Doctor Strange and cast him as the Joker.

This movie will be terrible with Affleck writing, directing, and starring. He'll make an abortion.
Why does anyone believe that Affleck will make an incredible Batman movie?
In my opinion, why even do another Batman story after Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy?
Ugh. No thanks.

Because (a) he's an Oscar winning writer, (b) he's a Golden Globe winning director, (c) he's a Golden Globe nominated actor who has starred in (his own) major blockbusters (see Argo, The Town, Gone Girl), and (d) his best friend (or former best friend) is Kevin Smith who is to comics what a fat kid is to cake.
Or what Kevin Smith is to cake... Because he's fat.
