My wife has had the worst strep for the last 4 days while we're waiting for that wimpy arse 10 day amoxicillin to kick in.
In the old days a shot in the rump of good ol bread mold would set you to right.
This country is going to hell.

I got a shot of it when I had strep last summer. 24 hours later I was good to go

Several shots of whiskey would be more effective.

Micro organisms are evolving themselves around our medicine.

Don't you know it's all about the probiotics these days? You take a round of antibiotics, it's like running a weedeater through your intestines.

I hear there's a Mexican Dr here in town who will do that. We should have gone to him.

Maybe it's a viral infection and not strep? Just stay hydrated and let it run its course. I had about 10 days of the same thing two weeks ago. Ibuprofen was very helpful with the low grade fever and sore throat. Gargling salt water helped too.

They've been asking docs for several years now to start with the weakest antibiotic that might work.
MRSA and other adaptations made by the organisms themselves is likely to bring a rolling wave of moratoriums - no reason to use it if it is ineffective - hold it out long enough and bacteria might lose its resistance over time. Keep in mind, there are only a hundred or so antibiotics and, roughly, a dozen are used in the vast majority of cases.

Yet another thing to blame on baby-boomers, reduced effectiveness of antibiotics.

She's in hell. They swabbed her and found strep but she hasn't gotten any better in 4 days and she never..ever gets sick.
She said the pain is worse than childbirth.

Survival of the fittest and evolution.
That is what happened to penicillin.

Can't just blame the docs, NPs and PAs.... You have to take the full run of the meds. Many people quit taking them as soona a they feel better. Part of the reason why the organisms can develop an immunity.

Can't blame me. They gave it to me once when I was a little kid and quickly realized I'm quite allergic to penicillin.

Tell her bjs work better than anything.

I'm allergic to it because it was over-prescribed for so many generations.
Not sure if this is true, but I was told South Louisiana has a very high rate of penicillin allergies because Catholics (my family is Nola Catholic to the bone) are the worst offenders of over-prescribing it.
Sounds weird, but who knows. A physician actually told me that.

Antibiotics are terrifying to me. I will try everything under the sun before I give them a green light.
I work in healthcare and we have projects at work designed around our hospitals and how they'd deal with the presence of a "super bug". Its scary stuff.
ETA:
Its not JUST antibiotics either. Its this "clean" and "germaphobe" generation of parents that cover their kids in hand sanitizer after they play in the yard and shite like that. NEWSFLASH PARENTS: Germs are good for your kids!
