You can't be a 3 and D wing without the 3. He had a good year in Dallas playing fewer minutes in a more limited role, and now he gets paid? I don't want to believe that $7.5 million is the going rate for 18 MPG one dimensional backups now.

Yeah he's young, and if he ever does figure out his shot he'll be pretty good, but I'm glad we're not the ones paying his new deal.

So, he isn't a 3 and D wing. Acting like the only value at the 3 position is 3 and D or rounded star is faulty.

Value is relative. Aminu had a good year playing an en vogue role in a similar offense to PDX. He has very real value as a small ball 4 next to a big with some range. Now, if they think he is a Batum replacement, they are going to be disappointed.

Like cgrand said, PDX has cap space. They can't use the MLE, so they had to come in above to get who they wanted. For the Pels and their roster, it's too rich. For Portland, it's still a fairly big guarantee, but it makes some sense.
