Still more expensive than 4runners.
Get closer to 4runner price the older you get.

I drive a mid 90's 4Runner. I'm sure the newer ones are better.

We were looking at the 4Runners and Explorers when shopping. The 4Runner was very stiff (actual SUV) compared to the Explorer (crossover). Since it was to be a kid carrier, we chose the Explorer. It has been fantastic and gets extremely good gas mileage for the size and has a third row seat that people can actually sit in. At 70k mileage and hasn't had a single hiccup.
I really liked the 4Runner and it felt like a tank but it also drove like one and looked like one on the interior.
I later bought a Tundra Crewmax because I liked the tankiness feeling from the 4Runner.

My current vehicle and will likely be my next one. My only complaint about my current one is I didn't get 4 wheel drive.

Will you say the same in another 200k miles?
Just drove one of our fleet explorers to monroe and back, under 60k on it, front pulley wallowed out. Limped it back from Zachary.
I do not drive a forerunner. I actually like the explorers, but they do not belong in the same sentence.

I really like the TRD edition. But the price tag is a bit too much for a 4Runner

I get what you're saying, but Explorer reliability really cannot even come close to comparing to a 4runner's.

Oh no doubt. I expect my Explorer to get to 100k without anything major happening. I'd expect the 4Runner to be a little longer but I expected that since I got the crossover instead of the SUV.

I have a 2012 4Runner and a 2015 RAV4. Love them both but the 4Runner is a great car.

My mom has a 2012 4Runner limited and I thought party mode made it louder but it's actually for if the hatch is open to play music at a tailgate or something

Every single service is performed at time rather than mileage. The thing literally sees under 1000 mile oil changes at times.
Current call on the idler pulley was a casting defect. I can buy that, but I don't agree it should have happened.
With sync fleet updating the fleet manager of everything we do, these things are babied. Over 3500 rpm sends an alert. Over 65 sends an alert. Braking too hard sends an alert.
I actually love the 4.0 4x4s from a few years ago. Excellent mpg oddly enough.

Tough decision between this and a Tacoma for me.
