1. Stay away from the south side...

Wife and I are taking a train from NOLA to Chicago for a small vacation. We are going to hit up 1 or 2 Michelin star restaurants and Wrigley. Any other suggestions?

Pics of wife are on the premium board already, I'm sure.

Chicago's Museum of Natural Science is one of the best I've ever been to.

ETA: It's called "The Field" museum.

Must do's:
1. Take Divvy bikes all over town. They're like $7 a day and have stations everywhere. Chicago is very bike friendly.

2. Walk/bike along the lake and beaches.

3. Boat tour.

4. Cub's game (duh)

Recommendations:
1. Navy Pier
2. Millennium Park
3. Art Museum
4. Hancock Tower
5. Get drunk in Wrigleyville
6. Hang out around the Wicker Park neighborhood

Gino's East/Giordano's pizza or Portillo's Italian beef on the junkier food side of things.

If you're into art, Art Institute of Chicago. Insane collection of famous art. Navy Pier is tourist hell.

Do yourself a favor and just pass through Chicago on your way to Milwaukee.

On a serious note, we just went in April and had a blast. We had our fill of deep dish pizza. Giordano's was by far our favorite. We went to a Cubs game. I was disappointed that they were doing construction on the outfield bleachers while we were there and I didn't get the full experience. That gives me an excuse to go back

We attempted to do the Field Museum, Art Institute of Chicago & Aquarium on the same day. Big mistake. We could have spent a day alone at the Field Museum. It was really awesome and much bigger than I anticipated. I wasn't really blown away by the aquarium. The Belugas were cool, but I'd probably skip it next time and devote more time to the Field Museum. The Art Institute was kinda meh, but mostly due to the fact that we were rushed while we were there. Two hours really isn't enough time to view 300,000 pieces of art

We really enjoyed the Willis Tower over the Hancock Tower. Not sure why. May have something to do with the fact that we went to Hancock during the day and Willis at night.

I suggest that you get a Chicago City Pass if you intend to do the Field Museum, Art Institute, Aquarium, Museum of Science & Industry, etc...You save a good bit by buying the pass as opposed to individually and you get to skip the often long lines. I was disappointed that we didn't get to visit the Museum of Science & Industry due to time constraints, but that just gives me another reason to go back. I also suggest a carriage ride around downtown. It was very informative and relaxing.

The "L" was intimidating at first, but we actually got comfortable using it towards the end of our trip. We had a really good time and I can't wait to go back

I second Girl & Goat. I went to Ada Street for the first time last week and it was great. The braised rabbit and gnocchi is incredible

Try and go see Second City performance. Wife and I just saw it. Three hours long, but it's a NSFW version of SNL.
Also, Try Siena Tavern

Went last year - we stayed in a jr. suite at TheWit and it is probably my favorite room through all of our travels. Walking distance to Giordano's, right in the heart of the theater district, and just a 5 minute cab ride to just about every major attraction. We drove, but taking a cab everywhere was much more convenient and cheaper than I expected.

Get the City Pass - it lets you visit around 5 major attractions for around half the cost of doing them separately.

Field Museum is a must - I liked it more than the Smithsonian (though the dinosaurs were closed when we went to the Smithsonian). Major dino collection, including Sue the t-rex, at Field.
The observation deck on the 103rd floor of the old Sears tower was much more fun than I expected.
Shedd Aquarium is nice.
Millenium Park is nice.
Museum of Science and Industry is unlike any museum you've ever seen - awesome.

Skip the Sears Tower and go to the Signature Lounge at the Hancock Building. If you're going to pay to go to the top of a building, you might as well get a drink out of it. Go at dusk.
