It sucks...add deshields to that list...in his case our front office valued grossman....hoes...dominguez....all more than him.
I think in that case, DeSheilds was coming off a year where he hit .236 at AA. Luhnow and co. didn't think a team would be willing to keep a .236 AA hitter on their roster all year so they took the risk of leaving him off the 40 man (keep in mind this front office didn't draft him) and it backfired.

But I wanted to hang on to JD.
I was pretty surprised we cut him loose so quickly. I think JL's explanation was he was a victim of our own success (whe he got roasted for) but he was referring to our success in the draft and trades. They didn't see JD contributing in the major leagues and didn't want him blocking outfield prospects they valued more.

Again, JD had 1000 ABs in Houston. He had 26 HRs in 4 years. Average 6/year.
What he's doing now is what happens when you're in a lineup with one of the best hitters in our generation.
Hindsight is 20/20 and it was the right choice at the time. Circumstances change. People around you change.
Jimmy Parades?

Parades hit .234 with a 28% K rate, so essentially, he was Matt Dominguez while in Houston

If that son of a bitch goes and becomes a competent hitter in Milwaukee....

I don't think there's a standard number of AB's for every player.
Look at Carter. He'll have had 1200 AB's by season's end. And aside for his HR's he's no better than JD with an extra 200 AB's

He very well may be. He's still pretty young. 23-24 years old. Unfortunately we aren't in a position to wait on him. Not with Moran, Lowrie, Correa, Bregman occupying the left side of the infield for years to come

Eh idk. You're right he is still young. The book on him when we got him was that he was excellent defensively, not so much with the bat but MIGHT develop in time. In year 2, his numbers were overall not great but when you get a young 3rd baseman who hits 25 doubles, 21 homers and drives in 77, you'll take it and hope he can build on that. But the guy hit himself out of job in 2014 and wasn't hitting worth a damn at AAA this year.

I have no argument for that. But OF is much easier to replace than 1B. Singleton was called up to K 3 times for a reason. To show Carter that his rope is getting a little shorter.

Well, he's off to a scorching .148 start with Milwaukee's AAA team, in Colorado no less... so we will see.

I'm sure this has been discussed, but what happened to Oberholtzers's face? I've never noticed that before.

We need to give singleton an honest chance though. Hopefully he'll be in the lineup tomorrow. I gotta think he will be since Blanton is a righty.

Batman was a little late getting to him

Please no.

Cueto, sources said, is the most attractive potential acquisition to the Astros at the moment. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Yankees and Toronto also are interested in Reds pitching, a source said.
The Astros had a top scout on hand in Milwaukee recently, and the Reds and Brewers have had eyes on Class AAA Fresno recently.

I am so curious to see who is getting traded. I have no idea how they view Carter versus Singleton. I want Tucker at first base next year.
I do have a hunch Santana is potentially a little more expendable because I think Phillips is really special. I think Phillips will be in Houston by this time next year, in fact.

Baltimore, a source said, has interest in some of the Astros' Class AAA outfielders, L.J. Hoes in particular, as well as Alex Presley. Hoes is on the 40-man roster.
