Dog swallowed a mouse whole - should I worry?

I wouldn't be concerned if it were a Lab, but I'm talking about a 6 lb. Yorkie. He's a little beast. When I feed mice to my snakes, I usually toss one on the floor for him to chase around for a while. He loves it. Once when I went to pick the mouse up, he snatched it up in his mouth and ran off. Had to chase him down and pry his mouth open to get the mouse out (poor little bastard probably thought I was his hero til I tossed him in the python cage). Well now I'm feeding frozen mice (thawed). So I had one in the tongs getting ready to feed the snake, and I dangled it above the Yorkie so he could sniff it (kinda teasing him) and the little dude jumped up and snatched that bitch up. I quickly grabbed him and pulled his mouth open, but it was gone. He swallowed it whole instantly. The mouse was around "hopper" size, but he's a little dog. No choking, but any worries about bowel obstruction - and after how much time can I stop worrying?

I think he will be fine. His stomach acid will eat that mouse up. He may poop out some fire and random bones, but he should be fine.
Those dogs were bred on vermin.

My pup threw up a fully intact baby bluejay last week

If anything he will be a little healthier for it. Pat him on the head and order a few extra mice just for him.

Move up to a full sized adult wood rat next and I'll be impressed

You should be concerned. It'll be trying to fight it way out. Perforated bowels and internal bleeding are guaranteed.

only about your floors, furniture, etc. when he starts throwing up.
doubt he gets an impaction or anything serious- other then a bout of the squirts.

Probably puke it up. Had a dog years ago eat a dead rabbit it found, absolutely disgusting when it came out. Makes me sick thinking about it.
Edit: hydrogen peroxide will make your dog puke in about 2 minutes. Very small teaspoon is all.

Ok since I had an issue with my lab (I know we are talking about a yorkie) during duck season. He swallowed whole a 4 inch corn cob that was sitting on the table for my little girl to eat. Well to be safe I called the vet. I was thinking no problem at all. Well I had to bring him in to induce vommiting. Come to find out anything with a hard interior like a corn cob or a small animal with bones can cause a problem. Reason being if it quickly passes through the stomach without being broken down (chewed up) it can get in their intestines and cause blockage. Then if that happens you have to cut them open. Like I said I know my dog is a lab but I wouldnt get complacent and think everything will be fine given that your dog swallowed something whole the size of his stomach.

I don't think you guys realize how small a hopper mouse is. We're talking about a body length of about 1 1/2". His dog is in no danger at all. At MOST, it might make the dog sick since it isn't used to eating raw animals. But, more than likely, there will be a tiny bit of fur in his poop tomorrow, and that's the end of it.
People feed raw diets where their dogs are eating far more bones than any mouse has and they have no issues.

My lab ate an entire bar of soap last week. He yaked it back up in pieces and his throw up was all white and bubbly

Probably be fine. My corgi puppy swallowed a pretty good sized toad whole the other day and she was fine. Her breath smelled like death for a couple days

i'd be more worried about that yorkie and that python.

I know an old lady who swallowed a dog,
My, what a hog, to swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
I guess she'll die.

Once saw a lab shite out a whole tube sock with yellow stripes, and a bandana, i believe the yorkie will be fine.
