Helping others...

I've seen people with the same issue and have been in the same position myself. It wasn't until we started helping others, giving back/giving more than you take, that we started filling that hole. I have tried filling that hole with sex, alcohol, drugs, partying and materialistic stuff. It wasn't until I started helping people in need that I found joy in life.
I have not had kids yet but I am married. People tell you to do what makes you happy and they are somewhat right but there is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is a temporary feeing to something that just happened. It will come and go and is based on your current condition. Joy on the other hand is a lasting state of mind. It's something you'll have to work for to achieve and maintain. It is present regardless of the situation. I guess it could also fall under being content with who you are and etc.

That's just my 2 cents. Good luck bud.

LIfe's joys are an individual's choice, but there are some mainstays.

Try to make a difference. Try to make the world a better place, whether it is for someone, or some thing.

Travel and see the world.

Be kind and decent to everyone.

Hedge your bets on expectancy and quit smoking. Worst thing I ever have done was start smoking. Best thing I have ever done was quit smoking.

Being happy in your own skin.Family might mean a Wife and kids or it could be Siblings,Nephews and Nieces,or close friends.

Being successful could have different meanings.Financial success or making a positive impact on others.

Life is what you make of it.

If you enjoy your Job/Career then check on that one.
If you're a happy person, check on that one.

Just do what makes you happy and try not to worry about what other people do or have.

Having a relationship with God and Jesus. It gives your life meaning and answers the question, what makes life good?

Must suck for the majority of the planet. They must hate their life. Especially those Buddhist monks that are in a perpetual state of bliss.

To answer the OP, do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt others. Trying to fit yourself into societal expectations is a great way to lose happiness. Find what motivates you and keeps you happy and keep doing it.

And if I'm causing no harm
It shouldn't bother you
Your choice is who you choose to be
And if you're causin' no harm
Then you're alright with me

I'm gonna sound like a hippie, but it's all about love. Love where you live, love your friends and family, love your fellow man, love experiencing life over fear

I'm sure you'll take some heat for that one, but I agree.

Find someone to watch at least one sunrise and one sunset a month with.

It can be a nearly religious experience.

Make yourself happy but not at the expense of others.
