If you have done nothing wrong, why wouldn't you comply
For the same reason I don't consent to searches, waive my grand jury rights, and forget about my right to avoid self incrimination.
Further, if I don't have anything to hide and I am a law abiding citizen, why would an officer ask me to comply to begin with?

Soon, we may have to ask for you to rise with us against the small, but very vocal group of people in our city who resist everything we all strive to attain — freedom, safety and the ability to live our lives happily and without fear.

From now on we will call you out each and every time you tell a lie, twist the truth or otherwise engage in vile behavior meant to push your selfish agendas.
The irony is getting thicker

Are you not paying attention to what is happening around the country?
Yes, it's being put on video. Kind of why people don't trust you.

We challenge you to have the same integrity and dedication to serving the community that you say you seek in the police. We already have it. You need to get it.

Plaintiff's Exhibit 1 in the next excessive force case. Dumbass thing to do.

You would rather prove a point and possibly get arrested or hit with trumped up charges to prove your point? I personally would rather comply and let the cop get off on his power trip so I can go about my way. I guess that makes me a pussy but I have never been arrested either

Luckily, I've never encountered a cop that overstepped his bounds. But I wouldn't hesitate to deny them what they want. For example, if they asked to come in my house, I would politely decline.

you know the funny thing about rights?
You either can exercise them...or you dont have them.
You dont care if you have them, and thats fine.
I do.

and who does that usually end badly for
Most of the time it ends badly for citizen, though that trend is slowly changing. Police officers shouldn't be given a free slate to do as they wish with no regard for law or rights.
It's frightening that you imply that the average citizen should comply with officers acting unlawfully. Do you advocate that citizens always comply with criminals too? Or are cops always above the law?

I care. I just am smart enough to realize that this cop that has stopped me could frick my day up. Doesn't mean I am okay with being stopped but I would rather choose to fight for my rights in court than with some cop on a power trip.

you can either exercise rights, or not.
If you cant exercise your rights, you, for all intents and purposes, DO NOT HAVE THEM.

Where have I ever said I think they should?

does the average citizen know when they are acting unlawfully? I am guessing you are a lawyer...would you really advise the average citizen to never comply with a cop?

you can only exercise your rights on the street? I thought courts allowed us to do the same

Well if we listen to what this idiot says, we should expect force for not complying.

You really take it to mean they will bust down your door without a warrant and arrest you for not allowing them in your house?

Our culture today unfortunately necessitated this letter from the union.
He is absolutely correct in saying that sensationalists and race-baiters in the media have instilled an idea that cops are bad and that anyone taken into custody is a victim. It is antagonistic. This is helping to harbor hate towards them and any action cops take is now deemed malicious. The mentality even goes so far as to justify violent action against cops. It encourages non-compliance.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Human nature. One way or another things will get settled to maintain a civil society.

I'm just taking him at his words. "If you don't comply, expect to be met with force."
Now this was a specific example, but he's certainly planning on trampling on citizens' rights.

Well first, I am not a lawyer, just an engineer. I am married to one though. Even if I was a lawyer, I would tell my clients to comply to the extent of the law. Let me give an example.
I get pulled over on I-10. Cop gives ticket. After giving my ticket, he then asks to search my car. I decline. He then says that I will be arrested for disobeying a lawful order if I don't comply. From what I understand, I waive my 4th amendment rights by saying yes.
According to you, I should consent, because the cop can kill me, arrest me, and give me a bad day if I don't. That's no different than a criminal pointing a gun to my head and demanding I do something. Is that OK with you because he has a badge?

I can see how some may interpret his comments this way...and others won't. I for one don't believe cops are trying to be unlawful while performing their job. Of course some are but I don't think this guy was advocating we are going to be trampling on your rights.
