My man.
You arent guaranteed to get a pitcher in the an open market, obviously.
Greinke and Price will be 30+ y/o SPs looking for Scherzer money ($30m per).. who knows where that price goes if multiple teams are on them. You are then on the hook for 7-8 years, while already on the hook with Lester for another 6 years at $25m per. Im not a huge stickler for money when it comes to baseball and no cap, but we will be hooked into 2 30+ y/o SPs for a lot of cash, for a long time
At least with Hamels you are only on the hook for 3 more seasons with a team option or buyout for a 4th. Yeah it may cost prospects but as of now they will be rotting behind better players for years to come. You dont need to consolidate them into a hitter, so may as well get a pitcher to help you now if you like them enough

that is a great point about the contract and age.
Hamels 32, 33, 34 guaranteed seasons at around $70mil
Greinke will be 32 going into next year. Do we want to give him big money through his 38 season?
Price will be 30. Wouldn't be as bad, but 6-7 years with big money.

Are we still on his no trade list to where he'd no doubt require we pick up that 4th year before waiving it?

Well let's not pretend like they can't be used for trades other than hammels.

would you rather trade Baez(or any prospect) for Aroldis Chapman(in hopes of re-signing him), or Cole hamels?
I think you can just wait for Chapman to hit FA and try and get him.
I want to see Ramirez get a crack at the closre gig TBH

yea just a pipe dream because our pen has been so bad

Yes. If we have to pick up the option, it still brings him to his age 35 season with us, which is not bad.

Is that a hybrid of Cole Hamels and Jason Hammel He would be a stud
Of course it can be used to other trades. Im just not aware of another top 10 SP that a team is looking to trade at the moment

I've been team Hamels all year. His contract fits perfectly with our window.

Yea...i wouldn't use them for a top 10 pitcher. I go buy a better one this offseason. Then next year I've got plenty to deal before the deadline when we can realistically expect to compete for the division title, not a one game play in. When you start mentioning almora or even, in pipe dream scenario for the phillies, schwarber I say go buy the pitcher next year.
Now if they phillies would take your proposed trade of an injured baez, a AAA alcantara and a 1b who isn't very mobile and needs to be a full time DH (so a poor mans ryan howard, which I expect they're not eager to get back into bed with) then yea...you jump.
But someone will beat that offer.

Pen has been absolutely nails for about the last month or so now. They had 4 consecutive games last week where they went 6, 5, 4 and 4 innings. They allowed a total of 2 ER in those 19 IP.

So that's a no go on Baez as a centerpiece for Hamels?
Posted on 6/18/15 at 1:14 pm to Lester Earl
I would be willing to make Chad F. Qualls available for a very small fee, of lets say…someone like, oh, I don't know,,, Shwarber or Rizzo. ????/ hmmm? yes, have I got your attention?

I don't think baez and mendy or vogelbach gets it done. If it did we'd be silly not to make it.

I know we have discussed it a little bit before, but I think their asking price is waaaaayyy more than that (to the point of being unrealistic).

How about
Baez
Alcantara
Vogelbach
Villanueva

we'll take that for Qualls and McHugh

Baez
I'm curious as to what potential trade partners think of him right now. He was looking great, but now he's hurt with little if any time to realistically come back and demonstrate his ability to translate it to the majors before the deadline.

I don't think they look at him in a vacuum so I don't think the injury is a big issue for a 22 y/o
I don't think he's seen as the #4 prospect like he was coming into 2014, but I think you can find teams who see him top 15-20. A lot of these top prospects coming up are K'ing, it's just a matter of do they think he can make adjustments? He was showing progress pre injury
I'm just looking across the league and I don't see many teams giving up a better prospect than Baez. Boston is already relying on their 4 guys, HOU has the pieces but I'm not sure that's a move lunhow will make, LAD seemingly could but I don't think they come off of seager or urias.. So I'm not really sure where phi draws the line in the return they get back for Hamels

Another point, LAD, Cubs, and Boston seem to be the best fits as trade partners for Hamels.
Philly's best trade chip with Hamels is being able to pay some of the contract. They want to buy top prospects.
None of those 3 teams really care about or need the money.
