Les Miles and Paul Mainieri are strikingly similar

Both are respected names
Both won a national championship in their 3rd season. A long time ago.
Both have the greatest single season in school history. (2011 football, 2013 baseball). However both seasons resulted in no championship.
Both had a lull and then a resurgence. Football from 2008-2011. Baseball from 2010-2013.
Both can't seem to win when it matters in the postseason.

Paul's hat fits much better though.

But Miles is hated and choker Pawl gets a pass.

Indeed....but you forgot one more thing.
Both DGAF what The Boat has to say!

Miles gets the better commercials.

You forget a very crucial similarity... Both have had to fill big shoes in following up two legendary coaches. Throw in a Charlie Mac following up another Paul, and you'll see the real pattern developing.
All those three did was win, and none of them got respect. Three Rodney Dangerfields that had the arduous task of following up national championship winning coaches. Two of them did as well, and still it wasn't good enough.

They are similar in that they both have very strong programs that don't always win the big games. But nobody always wins the big games. That's why they are big games, because the other team/program is good too.

You don't think winning the regional this yr. qualifies for winning when it "matters"? You don't think winning the SR qualifies for winning when it "matters"? I'm pretty sure if LSU hadn't won the needed games in the postseason to reach the CWS, you would have been on here pissing bout LSU not winning when it matter to reach the CWS.

It's sucks when you're right and hated at the same time.
You aren't "right" and you are not "hated". We are simply amused that you feel winning a regional and a SR doesn't matter. Talk bout being sports mentally challenged.

Based on the last 3 years Paul is having much more success than Les. Football hasn't made a BCS bowl game since 1/9. LSU baseball has made the equivalent of a BCS bowl game twice in the past three years. Football hasn't won the SEC since 2011. Baseball has either won the SEC tournament or the regular season title for the past 3 years I think more.
Paul has done much more than Les recently. Miles seat is actually warm especially if he puts together another 8 or 9 win season. Paul seat is ice cold.

They have to please an incredibly fickle and irrational fanbase?

It's tough to imagine when either one will put together a national title team again. Both just seemed like they are passed up by better coaches, Miles would be obvious on this one (he's not in Meyer's or Saban's league)...meanwhile Mainieri is at least close with guys like Corbin...O'Sullivan is a guy to worry about for him. Corbin has a machine going over there now bringing in like 5 or 6 Top 100 players. Ray Tanner is gone at least.
If Mainieri cant win a natty with this team when is the next time we even have a chance? 2017?

The inability many posters on this site have to accept the truth is truley amazing.
Sunshine pumping at it's best I suppose.

Oh, so only winning more championships than any other program is now the bar of acceptability? Then all programs are failures.

And both will get a raise and an extension. I don't understand why people put up with being okay with the want to compete, as Les would put it. We should have the want to win, not just compete. All starts with the AD. Get rid of him and then start looking at the coaches. Too bad it is all about the money, so as long as money is coming in, no way in hell anyone is replaced. Yes I realize it can be worse, but we should be winning championships, not just happy to be there.
