Horse Racing question: what happens to a "famous" horse when it dies?

I honestly don't know.
Do the owners sometimes get a gigantic coffin and bury the horse?
Taxidermy?
Fertilizer plant?
Simply dig a pit and drop them in?
What happens to "famous" horses when they die?

Perhaps this is the case:
quote:
(usually only the head, heart, and hooves of a winning race horse are buried, and the rest of the body is cremated)

Sounds real old school

What do they do with when it's done racing?
Does it get treated better than the other horses?

That's usually what's done. Interesting fact, Secretariat was buried whole as a special honor.

I've heard that a tradition is that they they bury a horse upside down. Something to do with John Wayne. At least, that is what some girl I used to know that owned a horse told me.

depend. 90% of the time they bury the head, heart and hoof. on rare occasions, i.e a triple crown winner or something they will bury the horse whole

A classmate of mine had cardiomegaly. Oddly, he couldn't run very well. His sister had kind of a horse face though.
