Question (possible stupid) about apple music - is it a streaming service? As in, my data rates still apply? And then does it make my music collection streaming, as opposed to playing from my phone memory?
Or does it allow you to download music via wifi, then plan later from your phone?

For those who stream music, how much of your data plan does it eat up?

Music streaming is free on T-mobile, but

Most (if not all) streaming services allow you to do this.

Google play music is what I use on my iPhone instead of Apples crappy music app

Just install both iTunes and google play music on my computer, start transferring all my iTunes to GPM, and voila it shows ALL my music on my phone on my GPM app

I'm thinking I'll make the switch as well. I like how they'll mix music you don't have with stuff you already have in iTunes. I can now dump iTunes Match and Spotify and have it all in one place for only the 9.99/month.

Or you could get Google Play Music starting right now.

Agreed. But I love the reporting as if Apple is revolutionizing something on their own and from scratch.

Where are those?

Are you confusing the Apple unveil as "reporting" ? Cause literally everyone is saying the opposite.

His point. Many other articles are written similarly. It will be interesting to see how the competition shakes up the music streaming business.

Well I agree the music app leaves something to be desired but I have plenty of music stored on it still

GPM is my go to app for all my music though--I agree with you in that it is awesome

Yep. That article LITERALLY does not mention Google or Google Play Music - the direct, epic competitor of Apple. I honestly think the fanboys don't even know Play Music exists. It's just like when iOS FINALLY added the pull down task menu that Android had had from the G1...and all of a sudden, fanboys were telling you about this great new feature that Apple invented. Same deal with Swype now that it's available on Apple. Also funny how "big" phones and phablets were stupid...right until Apple changed the world with the iPhone 6.

I believe Spotify is the direct, epic competitor to Apple Music.

Give it a rest , it was new to them and I doubt any of them with a shred of knowledge used the word 'invented'. Let's look at some of the top features of Android M:

quote:

Uninstall apps quickly
A small but handy change is the ability to uninstall apps straight from the home screen.

This can't be serious.

quote:

Android Pay will be baked into Android M allowing you to make purchases with a simple tap (via NFC) without even opening an app.

Wow, didin't even know that was possible!

quote:

Fingerprint scanner support

Amazing invention from Google.

quote:

App permissions

Great idea, I wish Apple adopted this!

quote:

Do Not Disturb (DND) part of Quick Settings in Android M,

I applaud Google's innovation!

Don't be so bitter dude. It's not very becoming.

I like to compare it to the 8 CDs for a penny club. There is plenty of music to listen, but there is quite a bit they don't offer. If you're older and not very interested in new music, purchasing a handful of greatest hits or compilation albums can cover a lot of what you're missing. If you're younger and need the latest music, you need a different service.

An apt description, imo.

I listen to mostly new music, and a lot of more obscure music (big metal guy). They just don't have it on Amazon music.

Look, I hear you. But Apple has made multiple major announcements as if they invented sliced bread. Siri and voice commands is another great example. Android had highly functional voice capabilities YEARS before Siri was announced. I would argue it's still better, but maybe it isn't.

A small but handy change

That seems appropriately framed, IMO. SMALL but handy. Not world-breaking.

My single biggest gripe about Android is when they yanked away App Opps after teasing us with it. I'm glad to see it's coming back.

How could anyone write an article on the Apple Music announcement and not have ANY mention that Google, the most relevant competitor among any to Apple, features a highly functional service (available on iOS, btw) that is almost literally the exact same thing? I mean, it's still easy to be a fanboy and do so, e.g.:

Apple's new Music service is the Google Play on steroids that we have all been waiting for. blah blah blah etc etc

Google Play Music doesn't:

have videos
have something similar to Connect
have a similar "For You" feature
have something similar to Beats 1

Apple music library is almost 2x as big, Google Play Music isn't available in over 100 countries

This said, i really don't think this is going to be near a big a deal as Apple thinks and wants it to be.

Because the article was about the Apple music announcement.
