Yes. It's basically an interstate highway where some people drive really fast. I wasn't impressed, although the quality of driver is much better overall than you will find over here.

They must have had a bad experience with the Polizei.

The drive from Frankfurt to Heidelberg/Manheim is pretty decent too but can get congested.

Driving on the Autobahn is the experience, not the scenery. If you want scenery, take the Romantic Road through all the little towns and villages in Bavaria.

I hope you know how to drive stick. If you don't, book well in advance and confirm they will have an automatic there for you.

It sounds cool, but honestly I think I'd be a little hesitant to try. I mean it sounds fun driving 120 on open road, but the fact that everyone else is going that fast too, and they're probably more familiar with the roads than me, I feel like I'd be a little anxious.

It is fantastic. Why? Everyone obeys the rules of the road. No one parks it in the left lane and, guess what, you shouldn't either. Doing 170 km/h is fricking amazing, particularly on a road that is so well maintained. It is the smoothest, most comfortable ride you'll ever have, even doing ridiculous speeds.

HOLY shite. 320 km/h. That's 200 mph in a Vette. BEAST.

Yeah it really is. I wonder how much money it takes to keep it up so well. I guess geographically Germany is tiny compared to the US so its a apples and oranges.

Just drove on it recently for 2 weeks in Bavaria. The roads are smooth and the turns are often banked so that speed does not make it difficult to drive fast. Relaxed cruising was around 90MPH and it felt like nothing up to 120mph. I hit 150 a few times just to do it but it requires a lot of concentration and is a bad idea if you're coming up on a sharper turn where you can't see if there's traffic around the corner (lots of medians there have thick bushes between the safety rails) making it harder to see past your current section of road.

Since 18 wheelers drive very slowly and will pass each other, I recommend to take a drive on Sundays when 18 wheelers are not allowed on roads. Traffic will be fairly light and flowing. Great experience.

As everybody else has said, do not hang out in the left lane. You will notice that if someone does pull out in front of you, they will move back over as soon as possible.

You also have to consider the topography of Germany. It's not exactly sitting on expansion clay and soil. Particularly in the south. The ground is solid, there aren't any hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. to frick shite up. So it's really just the massive amount of traffic that drives on the Autobahn that tears it up.

It does snow, I guess, so that could be an issue, but somehow, they've figured that out. But yeah, imagine if Texas was half the size it is now with double the GDP, no swamps in the southeast and no need to support much of an army since, you know, it can't. Where the hell would it put it's money? Infrastructure, I'd assume.

This is way off topic, but honestly, the fact that trillions of dollars goes toward our military so that we can act as the military police for the world has started to really grate on me. I wish we could spend our ungodly wealth on improving our own station for a while. Hell, I may not be so damn aggravated with taxes if I actually saw the benefit of those taxes. Our infrastructure is garbage compared to the rest of the world, and I don't really think the size or varying topography of our country should be much of an excuse. If oil companies can crisscross the nation with pipelines and shite, we can do the same thing with roads and railroads. We'd just rather spend our money elsewhere...
