You show a picture of each player to some random mom and I'd bet more than not will recognize the brow first

is being on the Madden cover still a big deal?

not even remotely close to true. at best, 25-30%. at absolute best. the majority of those are generic sports fans, and those generic sports fans know who AD is.

Good point. I'm sure the 6' guy who wears a helmet on the field would draw more attention at a random mall.
This
People who are buying Madden already know who Beckham is. It's the casual sports watcher who will recognize Davis way faster Han OBJ

I'd say 30% of America wouldn't be able to tell you who won the Super Bowl last year. Your extremely exaggerating th number of sports fans and the number of people who are able just watch TV in general

This thread is awesome. I feel like it's basically pitting LSU against the pelicans. All I've heard for the past 6 months is how great AD is but when an LSU guy comes into the mix, it creates some serious tension.
Who is more famous nationally? Brees or OBJ?

The average sports fan in America would automatically recognize Anthony Davis by his brow alone and his height helps as well. Would the average sports fan in America recognize OBJ if he was just walking down the street?
If I saw Anthony Davis walking down the street I would make the assumption he was a sports star. The assumption for Odell Beckham Jr would not be as easily made. However that doesn't mean a person past that point would know who in the hell they are.
The name Odell Beckham is probably more recognizable than Anthony Davis.

I would let AD inside of me but I still say OBJ has more name recognition because of reasons I have previously given but AD is way more of a star in his sport

quote:I concur. I am basing this off name recognition. many of those that know the name who aren't sports fans wouldn't likely know his face though so there are two different arguments if we are talking about name recognition or facial recognition

i'm guessing that was one of their best sellers ever? I'd imagine the graphics and the online play keep a lot of people hooked.
i gave it up in 2005.
I did make Sedrick Hodge an All-Pro on the game one year with the training camp feature.

very interesting. there was a similar thread last week and i made this very point in arguing that despite his on court greatness(yes right now anthony davis is one of the 5 best players in the nba), Davis will never be "the face of the nba" because he just isn't marketable enough.
regarding the OP question, there are a few ways to answer it. is the casual sports fan your 50 year old family man who is way too busy to have a favorite player, team or even league, but is willing to watch whatever game is on tv during the weekend and will catch some sportscenter highlights at night before going to bed? that guy will know both AD and ODB. Are we talking about someone like my wife, who wants to watch the super bowl, the national championship, and any other big event, but has no clue the teams or players involved? that person won't know either guy. AD is more recognizable physically, in part due to his height and unibrow. There are probably a decent amount of people that have seen or heard about the catch, but don't know the name or face behind it. really the answer is neither of these guys are famous to anyone besides a sports fan.

AD has been on the national radar since he was at Kentucky.
They won a national championship. He was player of the year. Then was the 1st pick overall. Then has budded into an NBA superstar.
Odell Beckham has been on the national radar for like 6 months.

Typical person who doesn't understand that stars can be marketable no matter where they play.

Yea and that's awesome for OBJ to be ranked so highly on that list... but go through that entire list. It's horrible.
