The crime in Nashville is largely limited to very small areas of the city. It's not like NOLA, Baton Rouge, Jackson MS, etc. where there are large pockets of bad areas throughout the entire area. You can easily avoid the bad spots of Nashville and not really worry about violent (or non-violent) crime.

12 South, realistically, is only about 100 yards of options.
About 10 restaurants.

Same can be said for 21st ave.
Demobreun/Division you mean? Or hillsboro village?
If the former, you're dead wrong. There is nearly a mile of bars and restaurants now. Rebar, Winners, Losers, Soulshine, Broadway Brewhouse, Red Door, Tin Roof, South, Blue Bar, Corner Pub, 2 Bits, etc.
That's just bars. There are several places to eat too. (Tavern, Soulshine, Sliderhouse, Chuy's, sushi spot, etc.)
If the latter, Hillsboro Village has several sports bars now and about 5-6 restaurants.

The area by one of the golf courses (taco restaurant) is honestly 4 or so bars/restaurants.
Sylvan Park, yes. But its a neighborhood area with about 6 restaurants and 1 "bar" bar (Neighbors), while the restaurants have good drink environments until midnight or so.

I find Charleston/New Orleans is a lot more "compact" than Nashville.
New Orleans is more compact with bars? No chance. Maybe the French Quarter? But we still have our downtown which is like a clean version of the French Quarter with more Country and less crime.
Uptown Nola is not that compact at all. F&M's, Tipitinas, Le Bons Temps, etc. Those aren't all bunched together.
Charleston has King St. which is awesome, no doubt. However, its not some 5 mile stretch.

I feel like people say the same things about BR and NOLA...or really any city

most white burbs surrounding large cities are pretty safe

Just come here and watch.
Its completely contained to tiny pockets of areas without any desirable restaurants/bars/businesses. You don't even know these areas exist nor do you hear about any crime...ever. I have lived here 5 years and my wife, friends, nor I have ever experienced anything resembling crime. We live very close to downtown in a heavily populated area and leave our house and car doors unlocked all the time. Only crimes that we hear about are DUIs because people party here and try to drive without knowing they take that shite seriously here.

I don't.
I live about 2 miles from an area people consider to be "ghetto" and even in that area I feel completely safe.

yep. the evening news sometimes goes for weeks without a murder to report and then its in clarksville or some crazy man out in the country killed some of his 'kin.

Well, I've lived several big cities in the south and we (i.e. my wife) feel by far the safest in Nashville.

woodbine?
east nashville?
c'mon. give me a clue here. i know you said its a 7 minute commute to that 3 letter word each day.

I am just not buying Nashville having a crime problem either. Seems like a pretty safe big city unlike its neighbor 3 hours to the west.

Those places have crime areas mixed with non-crime areas.
Nashville is completely separated. Seriously don't hear about crime here...ever.
