You mean what denominations.

According to Catholicism there is one God but three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, which make up the Trinity which is God. With this view Jesus is himself God, both wholly divine and wholly human. In a way of thinking this is sort of saying that Jesus and God are the same thing, although Jesus isn't the entirety of God.
At least this is what I was taught at Catholic school. Correct me if there's some misunderstanding here.

Most mainstream Christian denominations and belief systems do.
Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, and other assorted cults, as most Christian denominations would refer to them, don't.
It gets more confusing if you look at certain ancient Hebrew texts. At different points in Hebrew history they believed in a group of communal God's, who were all one, but also individually more than 3. I think 12 is the largest number I've heard used.

I liked it better when the Holy Spirit was the Holy Ghost. No 2nd grader is fricking with a ghost. It helped reinforce the message.

Scientologists think that it's L. Ron Hubbard.

It's even funnier when you type it out

Really hard to explain this to a teenager when he asks then why was Jesus asking for God's help? Why didn't he just free himself if he was God and not ask? He says his Catholic priests tell him it is too difficult for the human brain to understand.

You probably think you're cool for mocking and laughing at what another person believes but you actually look like an immature wanker. My guess is you're 18 years old and just graduated HS, grow up buddy.

A. This thread will get whacked
B. I'm guessing the priests didn't say that, because this is stuff that was ironed out by AD 381.
Tell him to read Ambrose of Milan, Hilary of Poitiers, Athanasius of Alexandria, Basil of Caesarea, Gregory Nazianzus, etc.

Why can't it be kept simple that there is God and just that Jesus is the son of God? Is there a reason it needs to be that convoluted?

Because the first is either Arianism (Christ was just a man) or polytheism (that Christ was a god, just not the god).

Can u summarize?
The Creed of the Council of Constantinople, AD 381:
quote:
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, Begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, Begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made:
Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man;
And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried;
And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures;
And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father;
And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke by the Prophets;
And we believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins.
We look for the Resurrection of the dead,
And the Life of the age to come. Amen.

You laugh, but without the Trinity love is not intrinsic to the universe. It is contrived. With a belief in the Trinity, you allow the center of the universe to be a community, which explains and reinforces our desire to be for, and with, one another.
