I don't have more than 10 or 12 guns--all hunting. I bought a safe to put in my outside shed just to lock the guns away from the kids. I bolted it to the floor.
I wish it had electricity inside it so I could put a 25 watt bulb in it to keep the humidity down.

Put some door seal tape on it and get one or two of these.

By a true safe that is the key

Gun Safe Infowatch this, a bit lengthy but very good info, also has some brands to look for.

Just to add: I was recently at Cabela's looking at their line of safes. I think they are made by Cannon? Maybe Liberty. Anyway I could actually flex the door jam metal with my one hand on one of the 'higher grade' safes. Sounds like a tall tale but I am not making it up (I could see the metal move). IMO that would almost be a worthless purchase.
Better to spend money on real steel than fancy graphics and handles.
Also, a safe is just one part of a system that should include an alarm system and an insurance policy that covers the items in the safe.

It all depends what you're after. Stopping kids and the average smash and grab theif wouldn't require much.
The one thing that I read that stuck out is all safes should be bolted down next to a wall, where the door opens away from that wall. That keeps them from being able to pry them open as easily.

None of them are "safe" or "unbreakable"...
True - you can buy a metal gun cabinet for a very low price.
You can buy a commercially produced "gun safe" for a premium - and they have options covering everything up to 60/72 gun safes and 5 figures. These are aggressively marketed and epitomized by companies like Fort Knox and Liberty.
Or you can buy a true safe, from companies like Graffunder, AMSEC, or Brown - among others - at an even greater premium.
Just depends on your budget and your security needs.

Double what size you think you need too.
Good Advice here. Sadly, I was limited in size by the location I wanted to put it. What is your goal with this RSC? Keeping kiddos safe or trying to thwart Danny Ocean?

I bought a Browning ProSteel. I went with the biggest I could afford over a higher grade safe. No point in buying a nicer safe if I couldn't put all my crap in it. Bolted down, next to a wall, it will keep most thieves and all children out. It weighs over 700 pounds, so it's still pretty hefty. I'm in LP, so it should keep your average meth head tweaker out of it, and that's what I'm most concerned about.
Good point on having it covered under your homeowners. Been meaning to do that.

The main things I will put in it are valuables and of course guns that can't go into a safe deposit box at the bank.
I like Browning, Winchester, Sentry or Liberty

I'm worried about putting one on hardwood floor. I have pine and that shite is going to dent I'm sure right?

I'd want to put mine on concrete

I wouldn't think so. The pounds/sq inch probably aren't that bad. I would be worried about how I moved it to its final resting location, but once it's down... it should be fine.

Depending who installs it you could have groves from the dolly on the way to its location. There are ways around it that a true safe distributor would usually take the extra effort to install without damage to even pine.
