If there was an NBA redraft, what would the top 10 picks look like?

Meaning if every player were placed in a draft pool and teams started from scratch, who would be the first 10 off the board? This would be franchise building and not just a one year thing, so age, injury issues, ect would be considered.

Mine would look like this:

1.) Anthony Davis - An argument could be made that there are 5 other players better than him right now (James, KD, Curry, Harden, Paul) but there's no question in my mind that he would be my top pick.

2.) Lebron James - There would be several teams who would pick Lebron simply because they would likely be favorites to win the title for the next 2-3 years. He's not in full decline mode or anything. He's going to maintain this level of play for a few more years, but then he will begin to decline. He has a lot of wear and tear, which is why I would take AD.

3.) James Harden - This is a tough spot considering you have Curry and Durant, who you could make the case for being better right now. Actually Durant is the better player and Curry is the best shooter ever and has the best handles in the league...but I would take Harden because he does not have the injury issues, has improved every year, has proven to be able to carry a team and his all-around game is better. Plus he's still only 25 years old. I have no problems with someone taking the other two but to me he is the safer pick for around the same value.

4.) Kevin Durant - His foot injury is scary but he's a year removed from winning the MVP and has already played in an NBA finals, plus his slight frame should make it a bit easier on his foot than someone like Big Z or Yao. If injuries prove to be nothing, you likely got the guy who should have went #1 or #2.

5.) Steph Curry - The best shooter ever and the best handles. He has not had any issues this year with an ankle that seemed to be made of glass. I think the other 4 players are better suited to carry a team, as I think Golden State is loaded and he is the perfect fit to lead them. Still, that does not make him any less of a player, I'd just take the other guys before he fell to me here.

6.) Blake Griffin - I think the top 5 are pretty clear though many would disagree on the order. Griffin is still young (he just turned 26 in March) and has improved every year. Offensively he doesn't have a weakness. He's proven that you can run an offense through him, he can score from the post and has one of the better mid range jumpers for a big man.

7.) Russell Westbrook - The ultimate competitor who can do it all. I think Paul is the better player now, but we are thinking about now and the future with an emphasis on the future. Westbrook has to be the guy.

8.) Demarcus Cousins - This is where it gets tricky. On talent alone, Cousins could be a top 5 guy. His organization is garbage, but his teams aren't sniffing the playoffs. I'd gamble on the talent and convince myself that I could build a winning team around him. Young big guys with his talent don't come easy.

9.) Kyrie Irving - His teams sucked before Lebron got to Cleveland, but people forget this dude is only 23 years old and is already one of the best scorers in the league at the pg position. I think the year with Lebron has helped him a ton and that he would be ready to lead a franchise.

10.) Andrew Wiggins - There are better players, but his upside is too good to pass up at #10. He showed the alpha mentality people questioned, and I think the fact that Cleveland traded him really pissed him off and put a chip on his shoulder. On second viewing I would consider moving him to 7th and sliding everyone else down a notch but I will keep him here for now.

I dont understand how Lebron James isn't no.1. He's the most famous athlete and also the best basketball player on the planet.

I think Lebron is still the #1 pick as he almost guarantees you a 3-5 year window of being an NBA title contender. He won't have the most sustained success out of a redraft, but he'll get any team to the NBA finals in a 5 year window. I'm not sure you can say that about any other player in the NBA.

1. Lebron
2. AD23
3. Curry
4. Westbrook
5. Harden
6. Durant
7. Cousins
8. CP3
9. Irving
10. Griffin

Durant would be the clear #2, but foot injuries are usually bad news for NBA guys. Can't leave him completely off the list, but I'm taking a few other guys with a comparable ceiling and higher floor.

ETA: This is all contingent on the hypothetical redraft falling under the same parameters as a typical draft, i.e. you're only guaranteed ~4 seasons with a player. There's no guarantee that Davis stays healthy OR remains with your team for 10-15 years.

He's also 30, the decision is LeBron for 5 years or AD for 10-15 years.

Wouldn't doubt anyone for choosing LeBron, but that's why a lot of people would choose AD.

He will be 31 this year. Davis is a 22 year old who just made the all-nba first team. Like I said, you will likely get to the Finals with Lebron, but a championship isn't guaranteed (2-3 so far). I'll take the guy almost 9 years younger and just as much of a freak athletically to build my team around.

I'd pick AD over Lebron just because of the age thing. It is a close call though. Lebron is going to go to the finals playing with 4 guys that they picked up at the YMCA.

Curry would be a close 3rd. What he has done this year has been amazing.

James has to be number 1. No one makes it a point to watch Anthony Davis when he comes to town or is on tv,

You done it now. Here comes the trolling.

But anyway, its hard to go wrong with AD or Lebron. If I'm a GM, I need to keep my job so I'd probably go with Lebron, because even if he's got 2-3 years left of elite play, I'm getting to 2-3 Finals, automatic.

Hardly. Let's not also forget that Lebron has dominated a pretty weak arse eastern conference over the years. I don't think he would have the same success if he had played in the West. Still, I get why you would take him number 1.

You must not watch basketball to know the hype with him is huge. He has reached super star status. The Pels will be all over national tv next season quite a bit, I guarantee it.

and also, we aren't discussing the best player here. This is an age factor. AD just recently turned 22, he's a no brainer to take first. Lebron is still the best player in the NBA. and I can see people saying Durant, Harden, Curry over him as well, although there are arguments. But he has age going for him above those guys. It's kind of like starting a team in the NFL, you take Luck.

...now.

Again, the reasoning is age. AD is 22. Lebron is going to be 31. You get a decade+ with a player a lot of GMs and league insiders consider to be the next ultra-elite player in the league, that they THINK will be the league's best player in 2-3 years.

Lebron you get the best player in the world...for 2-3 more years before he starts to fade.

What's to say AD wouldn't leave after 5 years? I mean he clearly is going to leave the Pels for The Lakers when his current contract is up so why wouldn't he in your fictional draft?

he took two weeks off in January to rest his body after a sub par two months. That's a sign of slowing down.
A league-wide redraft

Davis
James
Curry
Durant
Griffin
Harden
Westbrook
Cousins
Leonard
George

1. Anthony Davis - age + talent, easy decision

2. Lebron- wear and tear is worrisome, but still can carry a team.

3. Curry- his shooting ability and the way he can pace a game similar to steve nash have him at 3 for me.

4. Durant- prob doing him a disservice putting him behind Curry, but he's still only 26 and is the best scorer in the game. He'll get over his injury.

5. Westbrook- i think eventually he becomes a DWade type player to where he can carry teams deep into playoffs.

6. Harden- hard to put him this high because he is so game to game, but despite a few terrible playoff games this year, he seems to have taken it to a new level. Still needs to trust his teammates more.

7. Kawai Leonard- age+ talent+ attitude. I love his makeup. Question if he can lead/carry a team still remain, but i think he can handle it.

8. Chris Paul- still think he is the best PG in the NBA., and best player on the Clippers.

9. Kevin Love- I know the hyped died down a little this year, but he is still an elite rebounder and shooter for his position, and i think his best is yet to come. only 26

10. Rudy Gobert- just 22, he has the makings of an elite rim protector, competent offensive player, and elite rebounder.
