Would imagine it's women that live below poverty line and aren't educated on benefits.

My wife and I just had our daughter and she is breast fed. I will say from experience that my son was formula fed and formula fed babies tend to be less fussy, and more adept to deep night sleeps. Breast fed babies eat more frequently and sleep less soundly especially during their early weeks.

Also breast feeding commands a lot of dedication from the mother. My wife is a teacher so with her leave and now the summer she can devote full time to it. We plan to kick it after that. Formula feeding is just easier all the way around for the entire family.

My sister and I weren't breast feed and we turned out to be fine upstanding citizens who contribute to society. So I don't think it matters.

Yea but when the baby wakes up at 2am, she can just put the baby in bed and pop the tit out then let it go to town. None of that mixing formula and heating it up.

add to that:

a. are likely younger mothers who don't have time for that

b. are likely less responsible in general and bottle feeding is easier (and the government pays for it0

It's easier to get free formula from WIC than it is to take the time to pump.

Breast feeding increases IQ in kids so that actually explains a lot

There are a ton of babies that can't thrive on breast milk.

The benefits of breast milk are also very overblown and, for most middle class people, nonexistent.

Wait... what does breastfeeding and socioeconomics have to do with each other?
