lack of emphasis on religion
Religion has been a strong undercurrent since Episode 1.
The Old Gods--worshipped at the Weirwood Trees
The New Gods--"The Seven"
The Lord of Light--The Brotherhood and the Dulcet-voiced Wonder-tittied Melisandre, et. al.
About the only episode I can think of that may not have had a strong mention or usage of religion would be Episode 9 from last season (the battle at Castle Black).

My issue with the episode not surprisingly revolves around dany. So her main point of contention with the fighting pits was slaves dying in them. So she opens them up but only for freed men to fight. Then she attends a fight where a guy parades all of his slaves in front of her before they start killing each other.

So now that Tomen basically has zero advisors to help him try to figure out wtf to do, he has to reach out to LF right? Or vice versa more likely.

Get Margary out of prison.
Kill Tommen.
Margary rules as queen.
And I fricking knew Reek was going to rat out Sansa. Saw that one coming a mile away.

If Tommlen and Margary both died then who takes the throne?
Assuming Trystane Martell and Myrcella Barathian still get married. Wouldn't they become King & Queen?

I thought I'd wake up with a different opinion. Nope. Episode was awful.
Others in this thread recognize it instead of being blinded by their game of thrones fandom

Season 5 is just weak in general.
I thought this was one of the better episodes or at least it was entertaining.

I just don't understand why/how these religious freaks are throwing all these royal people in jail. It just makes 0 sense based on how royalty acted and was treated in every other season, unless the point is Tommen is a bitch.
I think I need to watch this episode again though, I was still drunk from the Lightning game.

It wasn't nearly as bad as last week, but the rape scene that everyone was upset about did in fact turn out to be utterly meaningless. People were saying it was an important scene because it was Theon's breaking point. Nope. Still Reek. Jesus make this story stop.
Then people were saying that Sansa had changed and this was her breaking point. She was FINALLY going to do something to help her own situation. Nope, turns out she's just been getting fricked every night and crying about it.

You are probably seeing the reason why Targ banned them in the first place. Cersei didn't think far enough ahead to give a group the power to arrest and enforce law and order outside of secular authority. Now to oppose them is not just wrong, its sinful. See God Emperor of Dune.
The rule of the many. That is where our High Sparrow is going.

yeah but the people of king's landing love margery a lot more than this random guy who came out of nowhere to gain his power
i know he's supposed to be similar to jesus's disciples (spreading the religion to the poor), but he has a major way to go to be margery
even if you want to call opposition a sin, they haven't had enough time to establish their place in the hearts and minds of the people to have any sort of impact. the people have been living in "sin" for centuries now. they're not going to change to accommodate this radical religious leader in a month. when the targs banned them, the opposite was true. society had been built around, and expected, pious behavior in the name of the 7.

Exactly, these Sparrows are bringing justice to the gods that a king cannot always do. Cersei made strategic error in allowing these people the moral and now legal authority (by decree) to enforce the law.

All of this sort of happened in a vacuum without getting a real feeling about where "the common" folk stand. We have no idea the influence of the Sparrows or if they can even withstand the bloody Kings guard?

well they showed the sparrow's enclave and it wasn't anything to write home about. we have seen multiple instances of tens of thousands cheering margery (who has done plenty for the poor)
this show was great because it rose above cliche and promoted "real world" situations unfolding. this sparrow bullshite is the opposite

The Sparrow stuff is just too convenient for everyone involved. Cersei wants power back? Well whaddya know, the queen's brother is a dandy and that's illegal now. Throw the queen in jail for lying about knowing about it...
What's that? Cersei has become too powerful? Lo and behold, the cousin she banged just so happens to be a Sparrow and he spilled the beans! Perfect!
The people telling the story right now are probably just patting each other on the back for their awesome storytelling, when in reality it sucks.

Ah I totally missed that Cersei convo for some reason, makes more sense now but still the whole religious thing just seems out of nowhere right now. I can't really call it being mentioned since Jon had to go elsewhere to take his vow for the night watch.

The way they shot the scene with Theon and the candle, it looked like he was taking the candle up to the tower, unless they were just being deceptive. Did he know Ramsay was there or was he surprised? Did Ramsay torture the woman before or after Theon came with the candle? How else would Ramsay know to be up there? They didn't do a great job making that clear.

They tried to be cute. But you see theon walking across the courtyard and he looks at the tower. Then there is a shot from the tower window showing theon walking across.
I'm pretty sure he went to Ramseys room
