anniversary trip
i've been on several cruises. all with large groups and had a blast. a cruise with just 2 people seems like it would get boring.
if you're just looking to spend some time together,do something like the bed and breakfast thing.

On Norweigen you have to pay extra for every decent restaurant and the food is no where near as good as it was on the Dream.
I haven't been on the Dream, may have to check it out. For Norwegian I've done the Pearl out of Miami and the Jewel out of NOLA. I can't even remember the carnival boats I was on, but I much preferred NCLs style of serving food.
But sounds like I should give the Dream a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

plus the steakhouse and french restaurant were good
Definitely a fan of both of those. The Italian one had a good osso bucco too.

I'll try the Italian the next time.
What got me the most in the Dawn vs the Dream, was the Dawn only had one club late at night to go to. The Dream had five.
So if on the Dawn at 11pm, you didn't want to hang by the pool or listen to Rap in the ballroom, then you were SOL.
On the Dream they had a piano bar, a dance club, a comedy club, a jazz bar, and a bar that played country and another area with rock bands.
I guess more comparing ship to ship than line to line, because the Fantasy had nothing the Dawn had, while the Dream was so much better, (while I know RCL shits on both of them lol)
ETA the Dream only does seven day cruses so for a shorter one it would be on the Elation or Triumph. The Triumph is nice, never been on the Elation. I try and stick to 5-7 day cruises.

Start a thread on how to bring booze on the ship. That has been done in at least the last 3 hours.

I was concerned with parking in NO, but they have their own private parking garage on the river side of the levee that worked great.

Carnival does. Norweigen, I'm just taking a cab to next time. We had to park in the Hilton Riverside, and the cop directed us past the porters so we had to carry seven days of luggage past the riverwalk and to the boat. Then embarkation took five hours due to a computer glitch.
We didn't even Muster drill. We got on the boat after 6pm.
nightmare.

God, that sounds awful.
I don't think the Carnival boat got to do muster drills yesterday with all the lightning in the area. I bet they were glad to be sailing away right before that shitstorm hit

That is because OT ballas used their own yachts.

Which is $100. Your best bet is to get someone to drop you off.

Thanks for all of the astute input. Looking for a quick anniversary trip and I can't take a lot of time off of work this time of year.
Just be sure to get a suite and you'll enjoy yourself.

Wife and I tried the B&B thing a couple of times and hated it. I'd rather a nice hotel with room service and a huge shower.

Dont do it! I hear the longer ones are nicer, but we did one just the wife and I thinking it'd be a relaxing little vacation. It truly is the trailer park of the sea. North LA, Mississippi, and Bama show up in a full force white trash tag team of epic proportions. I will likely never go on another cruise after that experience.
I could see it being fun as a booze cruise with friends. But not a "romantic" vacation.

Did you get a suite with a balcony? You don't have to hang out on the Lido Deck with the family reunions.

Cruises can be whatever you make of them. I've done cruises with big groups and cruises with just my wife and I. I got everything I wanted out of each trip.

The four night carnival cruise sounds perfect for you. Generally their older ships that attract plenty of trashy people that can't get off of work for a full week. The family reunion set loves these cruises as well
Be sure and start several threads about how to sneak your beer onto the boat. Eat the buffet at least 4 times a day. Get off at the two cheesy arse ports that those kind of cruises go to and never leave the tourist BS places located within a half mile of the port.
Sounds like a hell of a way to spend an anniversary. LOL

Most of them go south.
