They didn't necessarily nail Sean Payton for bounty gate. His punishment was so harsh because he turned his nose up at Roger.

Would you turn your cell phone over to your companies head quarters for review?
Would you turn your cell phone over to anyone for review that wasn't a police investigation with a warrant?

every team also had a bounty program, too

Not if I was guilty, no.

Which means it will get thrown out. He has no obligation to turn over his personal property to his employer.
He took the advice of the NFLPA.

Probably not.

The rule on the book calls for a $25,000 fine if balls are tampered with. No more and no less. There is no caveat in that rule in regards to players being misleading about tampering with footballs. It just says fine their asses $25,000 and be done with it. The NFL way overstepped its bounds on this one.
+1
Haven't seen a compelling argument yet as to why a 25k fine should turn into a suspension, fine, and loss of picks...and no, the punishment for "being smug during the investigation" shouldn't exceed that of the transgression itself.

Brady did cooperate with investigators. He spent an entire day being interviewed by Wells, telling the man what he knew and when he knew it. He just refused to hand over his private communications. And after the text messages between McNally and Jastremski became public viewing, do you really blame him?

Which he did not do. Not the extent you are hyping it up anyway.

That, and being a part of an organization that's a repeat offender.
Which was ruled by the Wells Report to be innocent in this matter.....but was hit anyway.

He would've been much better off had he simply fallen on the sword here.
What if he didn't do it? Would you fall on the sword for a crime you didn't commit?

We all saw what cooperating got the Saints.
Why would anyone cooperate after that? Then, he dangles reinstatement and a draft pick over the organizations head for behaving after the announcement only to frick us anyways

Oh lord. You want to go down that fallacy path?
"Hey we want to search your vehicle. We think their might be drugs in it."
"I have the right to refuse that. I need a warrant to let you search my car"
"Ok sir, step out of the car, you not letting me search your car is reasonable suspicion that there is something in that car you don't want me to see"

This.
Also, just b/c Roger thinks that the clause for conduct detrimental gives him unlimited power, doesn't mean he should use it.
How many public thrashings does he need to take by the NFLPA? Why not try to work together and give fair judgments instead of flexing every time as an enforcer. It is ridiculous.
Think this is the 1st time we've agreed

You may be trolling, but people actually think like that. And it's sad.

quote:No, but that should be acknowledged and used to help you realize, logically, that this thing is soooooo overblown.
You want the NFL to come out and say
"We are not punishing the Patriots because we have discovered that over the years all teams cheat their asses off and we do nothing about it. So zero punishment will be had. Sorry to everyone who has lost bets on football, you are basically watching Wrestlemania"

I'm laughing because it's all BS, and hopefully Roger will start drowning in it. We lost an entire season because of his misguided power trips, and the guy needs to be shown the door.

quote:Other people have admitted to Steroids, other people have admitted to drunk driving, etc etc. When you get caught in the act of cheating, then lie about it, you will get punished even if it is a petty crime such as this. It really seems like a simple concept to me that I learned from a young age
Other teams and players have publicly admitted it. If it was such a huge deal, why didn't the NFL investigate the public statements?

Not sure you got the correct wording there.

Haven't followed it super closely, but since those text messages were made public, was that just an attempt to give Brady a chance to tell them what they already knew?
Of course, I see the commissioner not responding to that well.

Also...Peter King of SI raised a great point about the air pressure in the balls:
quote:
Officials used two gauges at halftime of the AFC Championship Game to measure the air pressure in 11 New England footballs and four Indianapolis footballs. On page 113 of the Wells report, after a description of the scientific Ideal Gas Law (eyes glaze over), Wells says the Patriots footballs should have measured between 11.32 psi and 11.52 psi. The average of one gauge for the 11 balls was 11.49 psi, on the upper range of what the balls should measure. The average of the other gauge was 11.11 psi, clearly lower than what the balls should have measured. Average all 22 readings, and you get 11.30 … two-one-hundredths lower what the Ideal Gas Law would have allowed for balls that started the day at 12.5 psi. You’re going to suspend someone—never mind a franchise quarterback, never mind without a smoking gun—for an air-pressure measurement of 11.30 when the allowable measurement would have been 11.32?

To make a better comparision like you did, it's like parking illegally in a spot without feeding the meter, lying about it, then getting 3 years in jail for it.
