Car Insurance Repair?

Long story short I wrecked my truck and in the process the lower control arm got ripped from the bolt hole. Filed a claim, went for repairs and the guy just called saying he was going to install a whole new frame. I don't want a whole new frame cause that's only going to cause problems in the future. Can I argue this with my insurance company or is the repair options entirely up to them?

So instead of a new frame, you would rather have some non-certified welder weld one of the most important things on your car?

I would rather them total my vehicle so I won't have to drive one that will more than likely have future issues due to being striped then put back together. My truck is worth 12k according to kbb. The estimate is 10k.

Repairs are up to you. We have a saying in the business- "the squeaky wheel gets greased" meaning if you bitch enough- the insurance company will do whatever you want.
As far as the repair your talking about, it's actually pretty simple. Undo the body mounts and engine mounts and you use a two post lift to pull everything off the frame. You roll it out from under the body and swap everything to the new frame.
There are guidelines for how we repair something set by ICAR and the vehicle manufacturer. If the shop or insurance is saying change, it probably needs it. $10k seems pretty cheap for a frame replacement though. Are they using a used or new frame? Sounds like it might even be a frame section for that price.

I think it was just the frame from the cab to the front of the vehicle. Anyone have an idea of how much this is going to affect the value of my truck?

What was the estimate before the frame replacement was recommended? I can't imagine them not totaling it now.

The estimate included the frame replacement. I never had one before that.

Yeah that's a frame section, in which case they are pricing a used frame section and the labor to along with it. Honestly, I'm not aware that any procedures exist on sectioning the front of a frame, especially behind the wheels. Rear sections are no problem.

I see your profile says GA, but in Louisiana if the repairs equal or surpass 75% of the ACV it totals the car. The repairs (replacing the frame) also seem excessive for repairing where the control arm mounts. Are you sure it's the entire truck frame for that?

Frames are not as expensive as you think. New, normally about 3-5K, used, 1.5-2.5k and about 25-30 labor hours.

Thing is, it only pays about 28 hours at mechanical rate to change an entire frame. The cost of new frame is probably around $4500. So say about $7500 total if that was all there was to it. Add in the suspension parts replacement, wheel and tire, alignment, new fender maybe, blending a door, etc. yeah $10k could be right.
Total loss laws very from state to state. In Louisiana, it's 75%. In Texas, it used to be 100% but if th frame was damaged at all, it was a total loss. Those laws have probably changed, I haven't dealt with Texas repairs in 2 decades. Georgia's laws may be the same 100%.
