I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 198000 miles on it.Still looks and runs great. Literally nothing wrong with it except that the AC just went out. Got two estimates that came out to around the same price. 1200 bucks. Do I part ways with it or get it repaired. With that kind of mileage I know time is running out. What would you do?

Repair it and sell it.
It still has a decent value, but you are running on borrowed time.

Yeah, OP, if you've got the 4.0 in that thing, get the A/C fixed.
If you've properly maintained that engine, you could get another 100K out of it without an overhaul.
I had a 98 Cherokee with the 4.0, got 342K out of it.

It's got the 3.7 v6....Still runs like the day I got it. I use only Mobile 1 synthetic.

I'd fix it and keep on going. $1200 isn't that bad.

1200 is cheaper than a new one!

Drive with the windows down. Trashy, but effective if it doesn't rain.

So now driving with the windows down is trashy?

Compressor = $219 and watch the YouTube video on how to replace it. Maybe another c-note for tools and hoses and you just made yourself $800 for an afternoon working in the driveway.

Little more to it than that.

It's the compressor and evaporator which is behind the dash. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but I'm not trying that shite.

I think it depends on your financial situation. If you are strapped for cash, pay the 1200 and get what you can get out of it. If you can swing a new car note, you may save some headache. The car may be running fine now. But over the next year, you may end up with 3k more worth of repairs. 200k miles isn't terrible, but I'd rather not gamble on the reliability at that point if I had the money to get another vehicle. Plus you get a new vehicle. Being frugal is a good thing, bit getting nice things every once in a while isn2t to shabby either.
