Agreed.

Majority of folks I've seen there are usually in casual-ish clothes and it is more of a laid back envionrment.

If you want that, then go. If you want something upscale, probably look somewhere else, although I would recommend Peche for lunch

why do anniversaries have to be intimate and not celebratory?

People just associate the two

But like I said, if OP is looking for something casual, Peche is a damn strong choice

And as far as the intimacy vs celebratory discussion, we are just looking for a memorable meal on a rare night out.
And cocktails

If you're choosing Gautreau's (and out of that list for a rare night out, I highly recommend that choice), call now. Jazz fest season could be a hindrance in reservations at this late date depending on the night and the time you want. Gautreau's books up on a normal basis.

Congrats and please report back!

Make your own mind up, but Upperline has had some consistency issues and isn't in the same league as the others. LPG is good, but slightly more casual then the last 2. IMO.

Ps. Pick herbsaint and you won't regret it.

I have said this before, but Gautreau's has been the most consistently great restaurant in New Orleans for over 25 years. It is one of only two restaurants to have had a Food and Wine Best New Chef winner in the country.

ETA: And their current chef is IMO the best of the bunch.

Gautreau's is absolutely fantastic food wise. The prices are pretty high, but great place.

What other restaurant which has been around as long as it has maintained higher standards? Arguably none.

Commander's and Bayona. Still think that Gautreau's is better than both. Give August another five years or so.

I'll check it out. The die hard fan hasn't kept me informed of late. Too many competing interests...

Take the blinders off Gooner!

Gautreaus is very good, but it's like eating in a time capsule.

ETA: time to get back to reality.
Coquette, herbsaint, or August!

That's the list.

The food is excellent. I don't notice any time capsule.

For anniversaries, my wife & I do Clancy's...it's just our spot.

For each of our birthdays, where we choose any restaurant in town, we've each chosen Gautreau's the last 4 times, and have been blown away every time...Chef Sue is on top of her game right now
