Ray and Dupree Overrated to be #13?

These guys and Gregory are fading fast on my #13 list. I doubt any make it to #31 though.
worth a read
Dupree- His overall production was not as good as an elite player would have. Part of the problem is he lacks top instincts. He is more a “see and react” type than an instinctively reacting player. While I feel he will be a solid NFL player, I don’t ever see him becoming a pro bowler. He will get drafted in the first because of his great Combine numbers, but he looks more like a second rounder to me.
Ray- While I still feel that Ray will be a very good NFL player, I don’t think he will ever be an elite player. I no longer see him as a top 10 player but more like a guy who gets drafted in the teens, maybe even in the low 20’s

Interesting. I watched a pretty good film breakdown of Dupree that basically said the opposite.

I really worry about those guys. Seems that Edge rusher is the position where every year one or two guys emerge with these great workout numbers that make scouts drool but never amount to much--from Vernon Gholston to Dion Jordan, it seems to happen often with these guys. I'm still sticking to hoping we go Scherff or Collins if one of them is available.
If Gregory is on the board, even though he seems like a moron, he's the one impact rusher I'd love to have.
I'd rather trade back a few spots for more picks than take Ray or Dupree at 13. I just don't trust them as prospects.

I never look at mock drafts post combine. These talking heads forget about the tape and only focus on what they did at their pro day or combine. Workout results are fine and could be used as a measuring stick, but some people forget that what they do on the field is what matters.
Dupree was never elite in my eyes. Flashy? Yes.
Athletic as the frick? Yes
Worthy of top 20? No
That analysis of him was spot on IMO

Holder and Tripp are using Dion Jordan, Jarvis Jones (oh shite), and Barkevious Mingo as bust type Edge rushers. These guys are in year 3 and 4. Are we writing them off already?
Posted on 4/21/15 at 11:13 am to SaintEB
I'm not ready to write off Mingo or Jones quite yet. Mingo kinda looked like a project coming out who would take a couple years to reach his potential and Jones was incredibly productive in college.
I think Jordan is a good bust prototype since he seemed to just shoot up the draft boards during the offseason though someone whose college production never seemed to match his apparent physical tools and he's shown nothing in the league to change that.

edge rushers especially high 1's shouldn't be a skill set that takes years to mature in NFL. its one of the easier conversions positional wise in the NFL

Well that's funny because Dupree was being mocked top 20, and to us by a few BEFORE the combine.

Dupree isn't any more of a reach than La'el as an OG at 13.

I am not high on Ray. When looking at his stats for sacks and who they were against, it does not merit a pick at 13.

Would be so sweet if we draft Ereck Flowers at 13, would be sweet posting till pick 31.

Ok, but you're still taking an OG at 13. By position alone that's more of a stretch than an EDGE guy. (And yes before you try and stump me I know how we use our guards.) Plus Collins is no guarantee either like everybody thinks. They're all called prospects for a reason.
Now don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind taking Collins at all at 13, but for everybody yelling Dupree is a stretch at 13 (which is just completely wrong anyway in my, and many others', opinion), Well so would La'el, unless we were to play him at OT, which we aren't and what the team that drafts him early probably is going to.

If this is how you're judging Dupree, then you're doing it wrong.

Pretty much. Plus it's not telling the whole story. If you actually watched his games instead of reading some random old farts analysis, you'd see Kentucky lined him up all over the field, had him dripping into coverage and setting the edge a good bit. He didn't have the gaudy sack numbers because he didn't rush the passer nearly as much as players like Ray or Beasley. But, hey, people just go look at his ESPN page, see he didn't have 15 sacks a season and make the conclusion "the production doesn't match the athletiscm."

the thing about Collins is that he has shown on the field how dominant he can be.
Dupree has only really shown on the stop watch, and the measuring stick.
I think Collins is way more of a guarantee at Guard than Dupree. His floor is higher, and i think his ceiling is just as high.

Actually, I do think Collins is a good OG to draft but we can wait on drafting a OG in the later rounds. We need TALENT on DEFENSE STAT. Especially the linebackers corps, No denying that!
Dupree has shown that he can be versatile LB while he works hard in the gym and locker room. I love his game, he is lot more knowledgeable LB than the big edge rusher.
He just really fits into Rob Ryan's defense real well. Rob will line him up everywhere in the box and that WILL make huge impact with the offense. You can't deny his elite first step and speed. Dude is 6'4 and 270 LB freak that can tackle and understands his assignments from different positions. Can't pass that elite potential up!

If only I had a nickel for every dominant college player whole flamed out in the pros.
Not saying this'll be the case for La'el, but to use it as an argument for him over any other player is just wrong.

yeah, but how many nickels would you have for middle of the road players that all of a sudden blew up in the pros?

Dupree isn't a "middle-of-the-road" player
