Keys to a Game 2 Victory

Interior defense -
Last game the focus was on Perimeter defense, and GS appeared to do more damage inside (scoring 50 in the paint) versus shooting 11 - 29 from beyond the arc. I'm not sure whether this is PNR guarding issues or just communication with switching or fighting around all screens set away from the ball, but we can't give up open lay ups at the same rate.
Anthony Davis -
Needs to start the game off taking the ball to the rack, and being aggressive off the pick and roll. I think Tyreke won't start and Norris might be the better fit here anyway. If he can get it going early that will free up Gordon and others outside.
Gordon had an ok game, minus 5 turnovers - I'll take 4-7 (from 3pt) every game. I know he likes to drive, but he's never going to get the foul called and its a drive killer when he's on the baseline laying down and the other team is pushing the ball the other way. I wish, Monty would have him constantly moving around screens though to get him open looks or just be a decoy. GS does this with Curry and Thompson and it's giving us fits.
Also if Ryan shoots less than 1 fade away this game, we have a chance.
About Tyreke, if he's not 75% and able to drive effectively he should just sit out this game. Give Toney 10 mins to get up in Curry's chest.
What else are you looking for tonight..

I think we need to go after Bogut. Let's get him in foul trouble early again to take him out of the paint and give us the upper hand.

Yeah, those open layups were killer. Gonna need our bigs to step it up. especially Asik.

I think we'll see a lot of Ryan Anderson tonight.
I am a big Asik supporter but the pels have to get Bogut out of the paint and its impossible with Asik in there.
It looks like they found something that worked with Anderson in the 4th, AD was able to attack the paint at will.
Most of our defensive issues seemed to miscommunication, absolutely have to fix that. we don't want to be in another shoot out. slow this game down and try to keep the crowd at bay as much as possible.

I'd rather them continue to guard the 3 and allow some midrange stuff, just try to limit open layups. We're playing against Curry and Thompson though, possibly the 2 best shooters in the league. You have to defend against them first because they WILL make their shots if you don't run them off the line, and that was the gameplan last game
IMO we should have the guards and SF focus on running them off the line at the 3, then have AD and Asik focus on staying home at the basket, not running out to meet them in the midrange area. If they wanna take low percentage mid range shots, that's a win for us

I don't understand your logic here
Our bigs have to hedge on the screen and the person getting screen has to bust his arse to get back to his man. The help defense needs to do a better job at rotating to help out with guarding the lane. If you give Curry and Thompson open looks in the mid range game, they will kill us there too.
Asik minutes needs to limited this series. Ajinca and Anderson should be the bigs playing major minutes along with AD in this series. Ajinca also has the ability to step out and hit a mid range jumper that will free up the lane for AD.

They run that pick and roll hoping that you will cut them off and then they will kick it out to there incredible 3 point shooters. I would like to see a little more effort trying to stop them, but in general I think focusing on preventing the kick-out is a better strategy.

Running them off the line is still our best chance against them. I think giving them more of the mid range looks is our best chance, considering how we left the basket open last game

Need to more awareness from AD and Asik on those baseline cuts to the basket. both looked lost for most of the game on help defense.
Running them off the line is definitely your best strategy and it generally worked in the first game. the wide open layups to the basket is what killed us.
But once again, pels have to get Bogut out of the paint or out of the game. Anderson is the key to this.

We need Curry to come down with the bird-flu.

HAVE to have this one.
Can't go back to NO 0-2
Can't go back to NO 0-2

All of this, if this doesn't happen we will get swept. Asik does not need to see more than 10 minutes a game. He is not a good match up for GS. He is an offense liability and they are able to basically double up AD.

Help defense sounds good in theory vs a team like GS. We looked bad in that aspect much like every team GS plays.
Anderson may make sense to draw bogut out. But bogut is underrated offensively. He's going to back Anderson or AD down. Also the last thing we need is bogut to grab offensive boards giving them 2nd chance points.
Why not anjica? He can stretch bogut and still provide better defense and rebounding.

Agreed, but we can definitely improve from what we saw Saturday.

Ryno actually did a decent job against Bogut in the last regular season game. But, Yea bogut isnt a zero on offense i just think he lacks quickness to exploit Anderson on that end.
Ajinca can work too for sure. I used the Ryno example because it worked well in the 4th quarter saturday.

I wouldn't really call it interior defense, because most of the points in the paint were on drives or passes from the perimeter. Asik was pretty terrible on Bogut, but Bogut luckily only took 8 shots and had 12 points.
The issue was that we gave up huge driving lanes and nobody was there in help-side d position on the drives. We also had some communication breakdowns on screens away from the ball. They could have had even more layups when they refused curl and down screens. It seemed like one defender would want to switch and the other didn't.
I think we need to over help on Curry and Thompson and try to make everyone else beat us which is easier said that done. I would double either of them coming off of a ball screen. When they have the ball looking to drive in an iso situation, I would have defenders on anyone not named Curry or Thompson with a foot in the lane in over help position.
I also think we need to be very physical with Curry since his frame is so small.
We definitely need Tyreke or Anderson to step up with one of their high scoring games in order to take some pressure off of Davis on offense.

We need to score more points than them. Plain and simple.

I think if you go this route you are exposing yourself to way more open cuts and wide open 3's which is really what they want. If you over help you are going to have to rely on crisp rotations which is something we have struggled with all year.

it is interesting to me how little credit bogut gets/has gotten for his impact on the floor, and to their team defense. it also offers a window into how to make asik more impactful on OUR team defense, moving forward
hopefully monty is taking notes
