If the paint feels rough I would probably compound it then put a coat of wax on it. As far as products I know a lot of the fiberglass guys just use the normal old 3m products from detail supply stores.

Look into Pro-tec products. On a bass boat forum I am on they talk very highly of the products.

In the early spring I use the 3m cleaner wax. Then throughout the year (4-5 times) I apply the meguiars quik spray wax after washing the boat.

Also get some starbrite deck cleaner for your non skid. I found its cheapest at academy.

This is basically what I do. A good wax w/ the buffer first of the season, and then periodic wash and quick wax as needed during the summer. I'll use Eagle quick detailer and a clean cloth to get rid of water spots after a weekend if I dotn wash it. Where you use the boat will matter as far as how often it needs wash / wax. Our water is very clean so it doesnt take much here.

If its stained or needs some "brightening" up, hit it with starbrite hull cleaner. Then two to three coats of 3m wax. It will be bright and shiny. Then every time I cleaned at the car wash (which was every time I took the boat out), I'd do my final rinse with the liquid wax setting. Don't know how much that helps the hull, but it helped keep blood stains off of the deck.

That is a site for sailboats, but that is a very thorough guide on compounding / polishing / waxing. I don't know how much work you are wanting to do, but that will certainly make her look like she just rolled out the factory.

I did my boat following these steps recently and it came out great. I used:

3M Rubbing Compound
3M Finesse It Polish
Collinite #885 Fleetwax

Have fun!

3M Super Duty Compound Part #5954 with a wool pad is what most boat detailers use for heavy oxidation. Follow that with a wax that contains CARNUBA.

It definitely will help with future blood and scum stains. It would also help a wax job last a little longer.

Be very careful with Starbrite Hull Cleaner!

It works well, but is VERY corrosive. Make sure you rinse everything very well. Especially your trailer and the stuff inside your hatches.

We used it a couple months ago. Went fishing last month and noticed all the places we missed. Corrosion on lifejacket zippers, tackle boxes, trailer, etc. We had a set of jumper cables that started corroding and the corrosion ate up into the copper wires. We broke the cables into pieces like a tree limb.

We only knew that because the big motor battery died on the water. Yes, the terminals were corroded also.

Why are you using that all over your boat? We just use it to get the yellow off the bottom and it works really well

Haha. We just use the StarBrite boat soap which smells awesome and a little electric pressure washer. Hull Cleaner on the outside

but hey...

if your jumper cables break at the clamp:

strip wire, then use the clamp to hold the stripped wire to the battery post.

By the way, Lake Pelto looks different when your motor won't start.

Woody Wax

I tried the Pro-Tech products and honestly wasn't impressed with them.
