It's to the point now that I almost dread boiling for friends. I don't particularly enjoy having 15 guys around the pot telling me how they boil crawfish

I relish these times because when they eat my crawfish, they readily admit that mine are better than any slop they've cooked.

I've only boiled 5 or so times, so I'm not at this level. But damn that has to be satisfying hahaha

Serious question. The recipe I have calls for dropping ice into the pot after boiling and then soaking. Is there a difference between this technique and just hosing down the pot for a couple of minutes?

I learned to do it without ice. I tried the ice method 2-3 times to test it out and could not tell the difference.

Hosing down wont cool the water off much at all, which is the purpose of the ice. My problem with ice is it dilutes the mixture. I used to use ice by freezing in 2 liters and dropping those in. This is time consuming, requires collecting bottles and takes up space. I sropped using ice and do the bring to boil and sit off immediately technique as another posted. I've noticed no difference whatsoever in taste, only in my annoyance and clear freezer space
