I would list:
Tool
Sublime
RHCP
AIC

But without a doubt the answer is Radiohead.

Opeth

Layne Staley died
Thom Yorke took wankery to a new level
Tool only has 3 good albums
Phish is like elevator music for burnouts
Same for Disco Biscuits
Smashing Pumpkins haven't existed for 15 years

What? I thought this was about sustained quality output.

look at the progression from pablo honey to now

They've changed, but they haven't progressed in 15 years.

Oh, and the answer to your question is Porcupine Tree.

Having an opinion is okay

Asinine hyperbole is not. RHCP would have been so much better with a decent singer. Unfortunately, they have a mediocre talent who is a nauseatingly self-absorbed douche-canoe.

I met these guys at a shite hole bar in Shreveport circa 96'. Lead singer was at least 6'9" and the whitest man you have ever seen. Love their first and second albums. Black #1 and my girlfriends girlfriend

You must be one of those people that started listening to them once 'Under the Bridge' came out. RHCP were out well before the 90's ever rolled around. 1983 to be exact.

I was one of those people. I really love their Californication Album, but their old stuff is just so much funkier. I tend to get tired of RHCP after a while, but they have so much volume that I find something new and get hooked again for a while before the cycle completes itself. They are definitely worthwhile candidates in this discussion.

In my opinion, some of the best candidates (as far as breath, longevity, and consistent quality are concerned) are Pearl Jam, RHCP, Jack White, and Foo Fighters.

Has anyone mentioned The Offspring yet?
