I've lurked here for a long while. Posted a bunch the last couple of years. Witness the huge ups and down as being a Tiger fan my entire life. Studied about them as much as I can. Anyway. Seen over the last couple of years Tiger fans on both sides of the fences.

Where are you at? In my opinion of the three major sports, I feel like the Basketball team has improved. I'm glad they made the Tourney. I think they should have at least beat NC state and probably Nova. I'm ecstatic at the level in with CJJ recruits. I just feel like the team lacks the discipline and the core fundamentals to be an elite school. Too many times the whole team disappears on huge streaks especially at the end of games and gives it away. I put the development and game management on CJJ, but there is some qualms given to the players. They have to push themselves. We have great talent.

Baseball is the sport I watch the least, but still follow pretty closely. I feel like CPM brings great talent and develops it, but sometimes just makes the weirdest calls especially example of this weekend. Over the last decade we've been fairly consistent. Feels at times like the basketball team and we can't seem to bat. I think this team is easily CWS material this season. It's still early, and I feel like their about to hit a huge streak and propel themselves forward.

Football is the biggest mystery to me as it is to most. I'll try to limit all the quarterback talk. We've all come to love and hate CLM. He's either the biggest hero or the class dunce. We've had a great string of success this century. Especially improvements since the 90s. Seen 2 national championships and a third appearance in one of the best teams in college history. I think there was a crossroads with Nick Saban taking over at Bama where one of the two programs were about to go on to historical juggernaut status, ended up being Alabama. We've still managed to do fairly well. But since that 2011 season this team can't just put it together. I believe it takes more than a complete team to win, but an elite coaching staff and we just haven't had that. Either an elite defense with no offense or vice versa. Mainly comes down to lacking a quarterback which falls on the staff to pick the right players. I believe this team has raised itself to elite status and will continue to be successful over a long number of years

In conclusion where do feel our school is going in its three major sports?

Jury is out on JJ and how he will do next season with a really impressive amount of talent.

Baseball is baseball. LSU is still an elite program.

Football has been gutted by the draft the last few years and this year is the first year in awhile we have had a loaded roster top to bottom.

All in all I think LSU sports are still great with great days to come.

Baseball is ranked #1 in the country (for the time being). They will continue to do well and host regionals/super regionals as long as Mainieri is here. He's a top 5 coach in the country. Should be back in Omaha this year.

Basketball is on the rise. Hard to say otherwise. We've improved as a program each year Johnny Jones has been here. Next season should be the big leap we've been hoping for. The future of LSU Basketball looks as good as it has since we went to the Final Four.

Football should be on the rise as well. We've been such a young team lately and this year they should finally have enough to put together a very strong team. Fully expect a SEC title in the next 1-3 years.

A lot of people in here think we got this elite talent more than anybody else. It's a false assumption. Three star, four star, five star isn't any different in talent wise. People in here seem to think in baseball and football we shouldn't ever lose a game. These same people probably have never competed athletically at any stage in their
lives. Even the most talented of athletes will have their ups and downs in their athletic careers. It's the mental make up of an athlete that will win out.

I tend to believe that, since we've
won NCs in two of the three in the
last decade, and multiple ones since
2000,that we will always be a
program in the hunt for future titles
in FB and Baseball, SEC and nationally.

Basketball, even though we've been to
a Sweet 16 and FF this century, we
have't been as consistent as the other
two.
However, with the monster class coming
in next year, we could be close to
competing for titles.
I's love to see the glory days of the
Deaf Dome return.

I am both a tiger and a Cajun fan. i'm the minority. when it comes to baseball, I always pull for the Cajuns against the tigers. when it comes to football, i'll pull for the Cajuns only if the tigers are not undefeated.

I know it's weird but, that's the way it is for me

This year I agree. I actually did not feel we improved last year, and the improvement this year was not quite as much as I thought it could have or should have been, but yes it was improvement.

I agree. I think discipline, motivation and accountability are something CJJ needs to do a better job of instilling to get the most out of the program. Recruiting, with this years class has now exceeded expectations. Need to catch up in most other areas.

Ditto. I think it's different now than in Skips era when we dominated. More teams are invested now than then. I'm happy with PM for the most part.

I've actually marveled that we've been able to maintain the consistency we have under Les. The talent has always been there and that's a credit to him. Some of the other stuff, it amazes me we've managed as well as we have.

Football - I think Coach Archer should be given one more year. He is young and has some learning to do, but think he relates well with the players. I would like to see us concentrate more on LA players and leave the Tyrone Malone's of the world to A&M

Basketball - What can I say? Really nothing more than Coach Knight has already said. Coach Brown is a good recruiter but X&O not his thing. I guess as long as he can raft down the Mississippi River or climb the Pyramids or wrestle monkeys in the Amazon, it proves he is a good coach.

Baseball - Coach Bertran has it going in the right direction. How can anyone not eat 2 burgers while attending a game at The Box. Now, I wish they offered some fried shrimp on Friday during Lent. But, wtf does Slip know, he is Jewish

if they win...great. if they don't...i'll still wake up in the morning.

i learned a long time ago not to get so emotionally invested in a game. people lose their shite on this board any time LSU loses anything in sports. i actually saw a thread with people freaking out because the softball team lost 2 games.

fricking softball...

I've been on the Rant since about 2005 I think, and most of my 2000 or so posts here came by 2007. In fact I had trouble remembering my password to make this post...

Basketball I think is going to be a lot like the Dale Brown era. Recruit lots of talent, mediocre coaching, some decent runs in the tournament on the right year. I'm good with that. LSU isn't a traditional basketball power so I don't see us ending up with a Rizzo, Calipari, etc. of the elite programs.

Baseball - one of the top programs. We got spoiled by Bert...we're still really good though.

Football - can drive you nuts. Les Miles is one of the top coaches in the country, the problem is, he isn't Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. I remember some of the horrific hires in the 80s and 90s so I know what the next coach might be like. I do hope getting Orgeron will help with the Dline...still worried about Steele as DC. I think Cam will fix the QB problem in time...but LSU's QB problems since 2007 are maddening. I'm in the pro-Miles camp even though he drives me nuts sometimes. This is a huge year for Miles...much like 2010 was. I hope they turn it around and then make a run next year for the title.

Baseball: We are a dominant program and will continue to be so.

Football: We are great and depending on the year have a chance to make the playoffs

Basketball: Although usually average, we had a very good year and obviously the future looks bright with CJJ

All three of the major men's sports are in a free fall. Baseball season ended this past weekend. Football is over before it started. Recent basketball success is a just a blip in an otherwise usual mediocre run.

Seriously, OP. Where do you people come from?

Sports at LSU is like everywhere else - full of talented young athletes that make mistakes and sometimes do not use good judgement, and loaded with coaches that are very good but sometimes make bone head decisions. Everyone gripes about certain things during each season, but we all continue to attend and/or watch the games and support the Tigers.

I don't have a personal stake in any of it, and will continue to enjoy every damn bit of it, win or lose.

Basketball: Upward trajectory

Football: Elite program in the toughest league. We've had some ups a downs, but I expect we'll make a run in the next couple of years.

Baseball: Elite, but IYAM CPM has underachieved based on the talent he has.
