Asked did I have any weapons.
Yes sir I do in my center console
Asked me to step out and then called backup. Backup showed up and removed my gun, unloaded it, took out magazine, and called in the numbers.
Asked me when and where I bought it, what kind it was.
Once it cleared he put the bullet, magazine, and gun back in my truck said that's a nice gun you have a nice day.

Should have told him somewhere at the bottom of a bayou and there were thousands of them.

That's what I'm saying very good exchange.
If I'd lied another outcome. Treat them with respect and don't get shot. Cop even thanked me for a very pleasant exchange.

I get pulled over all of the time and haven't ever had that happen

I have an issue with this. Why did they need to unload and check the firearm? Did you question their intent or give them permission to search your vehicle?

or if you were an a-hole and didnt comply. Thats the only time bad things happen.

I had that happen to me once also. Wasn't real comfortable with the situation. I was already out of my truck so I didn't see the need for him to go in my truck, get my gun out, and call the numbers in. There was no threat at that point and I don't really think there was probable cause just because I didn't use my blinker while changing lanes (was looking for a DUI, but I was sober)

This reminds me of a time El Josey Wales and I were pulled over in West Monroe headed to the camp. He was driving and I was riding shotgun. They asked if we had any guns and the answer resulted in the SWAT team being called.
That big rascal was bothered by that ordeal for quite a while.

Got pulled over in TX on I-20 headed east near Tyler one time by a young trooper for doing 85. I had an AR in a case in the back. He asked what it was. I told him. He asked if he could see it.
We spent the next 15 minutes shooting the shite on the side of the road about AR's and the tropical storm heading toward MS. Usually these guys are just doing their job. I'm not for unwarranted searches, but just be nice, and they'll be nice back.

That would be the same thing as them coming to your house knocking on your door and asking to run the serial number on your television.

wouldn't they need a warrant to search your vehicle? I don't understand them unloading it
Posted on 3/28/15 at 8:54 pm to bulldog95
Why does it matter of you have weapons?

There's got to be more to your story. Let's hear it.

i dont see a problem with it. If your not doing anything illegal absolutely nothing would come out of this and no one would be worried.

What did they pull you over for and why are they calling in a gun that isn't related to the stop?
Posted on 3/28/15 at 9:08 pm to bulldog95
Were you in Cedar Grove or something?

The more a loaded firearm is handled, the greater the chances of a cop negligently discharging it. I don't know why they insist on unloading it and calling it in. It makes the entire situation more dangerous for both parties.
Just leave the damn thing alone, write the ticket, and be on your way.

I agree. It's good that all parties were nice and polite to each other, but that should be expected all the time. Nevertheless, as presented here, I don't see why the police officer asked if you had any guns. What does that have to do w/ a routine traffic stop. Is it standard operating procedure for a cops to ask about guns w/ every traffic stop? Surely there's more to the story.
