American soldier and former Taliban captive Bowe Bergdahl has been charged with desertion over his disappearance from an Afghan outpost in 2009, Bergdahl's attorney told ABC News today.
Bergdahl was freed after five years in Taliban captivity in a controversial deal last year in which the U.S. agreed to release five mid- to high-level Taliban figures from detention in Guantanamo Bay,Cuba. As part of the deal, the Taliban five were relocated to Qatar.

After Bergdahl's dramatic return to the U.S., the Army launched an investigation into whether the soldier willfully left his post in Afghanistan before he was taken by the Taliban in 2009, as someAfghan war veterans alleged.
That investigation was concluded last October and was forwarded to senior Army leaders at the Pentagon who then designated Army Forces Command to determine whether he should face punishment. The Army is expected to formally announce Bergdahl's fate later today.

But our NSA chief said he served with honor? Good thing we gave up 5 known taliban leaders in exchange for such a fine fellow!
Firing squad.
Firing squad.

So we used 5 bad guys to get him back so we could charge him?

Seems like the only choice. It's still "leave no man behind."

He wasn't left behind. He deserted on his own.

Agreed. I agreed with the desertion charge; I didn't think he was going to be charged however. Personally he should have just stayed out there so haji can have his way with him

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Obama pardons him right before he leaves office.

Another wonderful decision by our fearless leaders.

He won't do any time. A charge with no time.
Posted on 3/25/15 at 2:26 pm to lsudude24
I can see that happening. And it probably will

He's not a man.

Honestly thought Barry would pull some strings and not have him charged. Guess not. Bergdhal is fricked.
