Why are you giving the government $1700 in interest free money?
I know its great to be getting money back but wouldn't you want to change your withholdings to get the money during the year where you can use it?

40 G's this year. State will refund 5.

I think you are just kidding around, but $1700 back isn't worth trying to adjust withholdings.

1,700 is pretty damn close
How much interest you gonna make off that anyway?
$50?![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Oh noes, my bonus was bigger than expected in Q4 and I put it in an ira that reduced my tax liability. If only I had changed my withholdings for a month to ensure I had my money now not a few months from now.
The hassle of W4 changes with payroll easily out weighs 2-3 months of interest I would have gotten bro.

I am getting 7200 back and I am pissed. I am playing around with it, but my income is over 50% bonuses and options. HR said there wasn't much I could do to change it, due to the way the calculate withholdings on bonuses.
