Tiger Deaux-nuts Review

So after craving something sweet for the past few days my girlfriend and I decided to stop by Tiger Deaux-nuts on Government near South Foster for what is supposedly the best doughnuts in town.
I wanted to get there right after they open, around 7 o'clock, but my girlfriend wound up sleeping in until 9. We arrived at the locally-owned establishment around 9:30 and only had to wait for a moment before being served.
We decided to get a half-dozen to ensure that we would be able to sample most of the specialty doughnuts. We settled on a standard Tiger Doughnut (King Cake purple and gold sprinkles with cinnamon sugar), a Strawberry Cream Cheese, a Blueberry Bliss, a Vanilla Jalapeno (vanilla frosting with a jalapeno jelly), a Red Velvet (red velvet cake crumbles and cream cheese but atop a standard doughnut), and an Elvis (a dollop of peanut butter, a slice of banana, and crumbled bacon atop a chocolate-glazed doughnut).
Cons:
Freshness:
The doughnuts were cold. I will attribute this issue to our inability to arrive earlier, but it still seems silly that the doughnuts would be cold during the middle of the morning.
Price:
Despite only ordering a half-dozen and a cup of coffee, our total came out to more than 11 dollars. Even though I haven't had doughnuts in a while, that price still seems fairly steep considering that this wasn't a bakery or "premium" shop.
Why don't you fill me up, buttercup baby?:
The specialty doughnuts were merely traditional doughnuts with special toppings. None of the doughnuts were stuffed in the manner both my girlfriend and I had presumed (e.g. the Elvis would have a peanut butter filling and the strawberry cheese cake would have a strawberry filling instead of just cream cheese).
Where's the fruit?:
The fruit on the Elvis, Blueberry Bliss, and Strawberry Cheese Cake was very sparse. We had a literal slice of banana on our Elvis and the Strawberry Cheese Cake did not even contain an entire strawberry.
Selection:
I knew going in that Tiger Deaux-nuts has a limited menu on the weekend, and a revolving rotation of specialty doughnuts, but I was still very much disappointed to see the limited options. There were four regular doughnuts and six specialty doughnuts to choose from.
I read about how delightful the Banana's Foster, Peanut Butter Cup, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Butter, etc., but none were available for taste.
Pros:
Won't bog you down for the day:
The doughnuts were all light and fluffy. None of them sat heavy on our stomachs and despite eating about three-and-a-half myself, I felt surprisingly good.
Diamond in the rough:
Considering what it was, the Tiger Doughnut was delightful. It was deceptively tasty and would rival just about any simple doughnut I have ever consumed.
Originality:
The toppings were creative and somewhat original considering what has been available in Baton Rouge throughout my life.
Overall:
We both agreed that Tiger Deaux-nuts isn't anything all that special. Both she and I would be willing to return for a Blueberry Bliss or a Tiger Doughnut, and we were also intrigued by their honey-glazed doughnuts. However, she assured me that Mr. Ronnie's Hot Doughnuts has both a better overall selection and better quality doughnuts. Until I have the opportunity to sample some for myself, I will have to take her word for it.

It's a freakikg donut. IMO none of the fancy craft donuts of the new world are better than a hot glazed donut from Krispy Kreme.

Hell, you don't need a "craft" donut to beat Krispy Kreme. You can keep their shite.

+1
I haven't ever really bought or eaten any of the fancy donuts, but is the OP right that the crazy ones with all kinds of different toppings and filling are supposed to be served hot? I thought only regular glazed were best eaten hot?

I was just giving people a heads up. I'm not pretentious enough to photograph my food before consuming it as a means of bragging on the Internet.
I just expected more considering all of the praise given to their products.

Yep. I don't eat many sweets, and a lot of the fancy donuts sound painful.
But a piping hot glazed donut is awesome. Mr. Ronnie's is walking distance to the house and I STILL haven't tried one. Maybe I'll go get one now.

Again, I just thought I would let people know what to expect before going there. Considering the 90% rating on Urbanspoon, I expected something spectacular.

It's a freaking beer. IMO, none of the fancy craft beers of the new world are better than beechwood aged beer from Budweiser.

FDD glaze from baker's dozen
nose is sweet and sugary. First bite is into hardened glaze followed with a soft donuty underside. the backend melts in your mouth to a point you don't have to chew. delicious

Take the cold donuts home. Slice them in half. Butter each cut side and put them on a baking sheet lined with non stick foil. Low broil or bake until the cut sides are light golden brown. Enjoy with a side of crispy bacon.

But you will give each one of your little paragraphs a cute title though.
