Our defense the last few years has been poorer than a Ethiopian farmer and folks want another 1st round WR....I don't get it.
Some things you can't just force.
One of those top 2 receivers will be there.. It may even be Cooper now with White's emergence. I don't know if you can pass on BPA at that spot.
If given the opportunity last year (which wasn't there because of where we drafted) would we not want Beckham Jr first round if in position to draft so?

I just don't see any way CSP(Loomis to some) picks a WR #1.
WR was not the major problem last year or this.
Rate of bust for 1st round WR's is higher than most positions in the draft.
We got a 1st round WR last year.
We have more holes in starters and depth than years past.
I'm sticking with my prediction and we trade down from the 13th.

Yeah, but also lost Graham and Stills (who was huge for us)
I just don't see any value IF everything goes accordingly of picking a defensive player at pick 13 worthy of that spot. Of course I could be wrong, but I don't see guys like Beasley being there.
I just like BPA. Seems like they Saints have stated this a few times before, not always. Another guy who would make sense in that spot is La'el Collins, regardless of "homer" or not. He is the consensus top tackle left at that spot that would be available in a position of need and importance. I am trying to find a defensive player worthy of that draft spot if the draft goes as planned. Malcolm Brown? Eh, just not sure enough on him.. Danny Shelton is a monster, but will be gone.

that was last year. this year things are much different. we have colston, cooks, and.... If one of the 3 are there, it is certainly in play. The problem with this draft is that there is no clear cut consensus on the top players outside of Williams and Winston. The rest seem to be rated all over the place when comparing different reporters' and scouts' rankings. This is why I do agree with you that trading from 13 is highly likely. This is the first draft in a long time in which the Saints' selection could be anything and is impossible to predict.

Yes but he wont be there after 5

After this off season WR is a big need. If White or Cooper are there at 13 I think the Saints take him.

This guy went #2 overall last draft. He spent the entire past season at guard.
This guy went #16 & was a Pro Bowler.
Times are changing & some fans need come to this reality.

And he is now playing tackle. Like he was always going to. Scherff is different. He will never have the skill set to play tackle at a high level.

I will give you this, but I was talking about top 10 pick when I said "top pick." I was making the point that he will likely be there at our pick because no one will spend a pick that high on him. It becomes more likely the closer you get to the middle of the round. I am not saying Scherff will not be a great guard. He might even be our pick. But it's doubtful.

We don't need to have pro-bowl tackles to be successful. We need pro-bowlers at Center and at both guards.
Guard won't be a sexy pick for most, but with us letting go of Grubbs we need a sure thing. And Collins and Scherff are as about as sure as it gets. Both can be the next Zack Martin and be a pro-bowler in their first year.
At first I hated the idea of drafting Scherff, until I watched whole games of him playing and watched his combine drills and highlights. The guy is a powerhouse. He's thick and is the top offensive linemen in the draft IMO. Collins probably has a higher ceiling, but I don't think he can pass block as well as Scherff can right now.

Yes they will. Two guards were drafted in the top 10 in 2013 (Cooper at 7, Womack at 10). If teams think Scherff can be a stud on the inside, someone will absolutely pick him in the top 10. He's highly unlikely to be available.

I am well aware and agree it should be noted this is only true for as long as Drew is our QB assuming his successor has a little more to offer in the height department.
I have seen a lot of Scherff myself, and I have no issues with us taking him at 13 but I just don't think it will happen. This front office has never spent a top pick on an offensive lineman, and the highest one they did spend was a major bust. I don't think they will start now. It could happen. But I don't see it. We have had a lot of top flight players on the line since 2006 and almost every single one was a late round pick who they developed. I am fairly sure they are confident in their ability to do this. Unless they think everyone on the roster is a complete failure, they will spend our top pick on a need that is harder to address later. Pass rusher or WR. Just my opinion. I will happily admit I was wrong and be happy with the Scherff pick if it happens.

Loomis/Payton haven't done this yet and they should have several times. If the right OL or LB isn't at our spot, they absolutely should trade down and pick up picks for next year. Why next year? They will have to draft a QB next year and they'll need all the ammo they can get to move up (I'm optimistic we'll be at least a 50/50 ball club next year).

And that was out of necessity that he moved back. If Jake Long wouldn't have torn his ACL, Robinson would have played the season at guard.

This is simply your opinion. He may or my not ever become a tackle in the NFL, it still doesn't diminish his value as a guard.

The Payton & Loomis never ever make trades & accumulates picks ever. Oh wait........

Can we officially retire this phrase on this board, please?
1. Just because we've never done something before, does not in any way mean we won't ever do it.
2. They have been doing a lot of things this off-season that they have never done before.
3. We finished 7-9 two out of the last three seasons. Maybe it's time we try something new.

Realistic at 13:
Beasley (if get pass Atl)
T Waynes
Scherff (Saints prob wont use OL for 1st pick)
A Dupree

Why do we need a corner?
Posted on 3/21/15 at 1:09 am to LosLobos111
I don't think a CB at 13 is a huge priority , but to play devil's advocat:
-The 12 top could pan out to where Waynes is clearly the BPA.
-Browner turns 31 before the season starts, and Lewis is about to make 28.
-We have a big question mark after Browner and Lewis. Dixon got a lot of playing time last year, but is still far from a sure thing. SJB played 8 snaps last year, so who knows what to expect from him. We all hope Breaux can contribute, but no one knows what to reasonably expect.

Can get a decent corner in the 3rd for solid depth
In a worst case scenario there's still someone I'd rather take.
Lewis/Browner are locked in for a few years and aren't old.

I wouldn't say they are old either, but Browner does turn 31 in August. Also, who is our 3rd CB, a position that will get a lot of snaps, right now?

Not trying to be a dick, but the team isn't going to draft who you like. It's definitely possible Waynes could be their highest rated player at 13.

That's easy to say from a fan perspective, but that's not how Front Offices think in real life.

I don't see the value of using a pick on waynes at 13 when you can get a position of greater need(pass rush/oline or hell WR) instead. Those are also much safer options than a rookie corner(our draft history doesn't help either).
They can get a guy like peters or johnson with 31 or 44 or maybe carter/doss later.
It just screams like a bad idea to use 13 on a corner when other options make much more sense.
