I also knew a native guy who had two small children. Beautiful kids. I saw him at a party on a Saturday once. The next week, he got into a fight with his ex, threw her from the moving car and led the cops on a long chase. He made it to his house, barricaded himself inside. State trooper jumped a fence and was shot and killed. The culprit then shot his two children with a .308 then killed himself. I knew the suspect and the trooper very well. LINK

My sister is starting as a PA at a children's hospital this month and I fear for her mental health

Makes me sick to think about. My mom taught a couple of her sisters in HS.

Friend of mine I went to HS with was subject of a recent 48 Hours television episode.
Auburn Grad, scout leader, father of two boys... the whole nine yards...just a great guy.. would give a stranger the shirt off of hisback.
Wife was screwing around on him, he evidently finally got wind of it and evidently threatened divorce and taking the kids.
She calms him down from it,plays like everything will be allright. they'll work it out.
She suggests they meet where they evidently had one of their first dates to exchange Valentines Day cards.
Instead of her showing up to exchange cards, she had pre-arranged a hit on her husband.
Guy shows up in her car, husband gets out to give her card, couldn't see for the headlights in his eyes and is shot by guy multiple times, including one to the face as he laid dying next to his truck.
Happened in Hall County, just north of Atlanta a few years back.

RIP Richard, you damn sure didn't deserve what happened to you bud.

The last child I mentioned....taught me the very important lesson of mentally leaving work at work as much as I can. I had to learn that lesson the hard way, as do many healthcare professionals.

Make sure your sister has some healthy ways/hobbies to alleviate stress(exercise, whatever)...cause she will need it.

A lot of the quick ways are disturbing but not as disturbing as some of the progressive diseases that are more common. Think about slowly losing your mind over the course of many years until you can't remember anything, walk, control your bowels or recognize anyone around you....like an alzheimers patient.

An acquaintance helped their sister's dead battery in a parking lot and sliced his finger on the terminal/battery when replacing. Healing was slow and you could see he didn't clean it well as the "black" was under the skin.

Septis set in and he was treated. Treatment was ongoing and they eventually amputated his right second finger next to the index. Anti's never helped and eventually the Septis took over and killed him.

Terrible story though.

Someone I knew and was on the outside of my social circle (friends of friends etc) was a heathy guy, very active and a triathlete. Wife, 2 kids, another on the way. Has a random headache spring up that won't go away. Goes to the doctor and he has a brain tumor. Dies 2 months later at 31.

That still disturbs me 2 years later.

Depressing thread.

It's believe he pushed her. At least that's what she initially said.

Maybe that's how they found his body so quickly

My dad was hit with a live carrier power line on his shoulders. I like to think it killed him instantly, but he probably suffered immensely as the electricity burned him up.

Straight out of Last House on the Left, that's be a hell of a way to go...

Anyways, back on topic, during the summer break between 5th & 6th grade a friend of mine and her sister were both hit and killed by a car.

Not the craziest of circumstances, but it's been one of the most significant reminders throughout my life of how quick lives can change.

When I was in high school, some guy in town (Lake Charles) tried to cut his own head off with a chainsaw. He didn't make it all the way. I did not know the guy.
