It's not true for the rest of Americans. The economy and spending is actually down. The spike in the economy due to low gas prices isnt happening like everyone said it would.

All I want to know is when this will reflect at the pump? I was pay 1.80 in December and now I'm paying over $2.00. What gives
How much of the price at the pump is associated with refining? I don't think there are huge fluctuations in downstream costs, but I'm not an industry expert.

I wasn't trying to tie it just to oil. Just saying that those two things aren't what's keeping Shreveport afloat. People don't fully understand everything that drives their economy. Yeah it's awesome that a doctor makes the money they do and a lawyer makes the money they do, but they don't make that money without importing money into your community. Where is that coming from? For a lot of towns in Texas and Louisiana, that's oil and gas. Shreveport also has a good bit of oil and gas land work as well. Not the same as Lafayette, but it's still making some money off of that.

Yep. I'll feel it in my wallet when I have more spending money because I'm not spending it at the pump.
Exactly cheaper gas spurs economic growth which actually leads to more oil & gas consumption. People drive more when gas is cheaper. How do these oil guys not see that? Short sided I guess.

I live in Shreveport and oil prices don't affect chit around here. We've got a thriving healthcare industry and the Air Force base as two of our most prominent employers in the area.
Shreveport was practically built by the oil business. While it is a smaller part of the economy compared to pre 1986 bust it still will have some negative effects. The region is much more dependent on natural gas now and with gas prices subdued also it has cooled the local economy as service companies and operators have transferred or laid off employees. Many of the biggest investors in town derive much of their income from oil and gas and they will pare back with these low prices. These are the people behind much of the commercial and residential development over the last decade. Banks will be weaker with lower income streams. The big law firms already are seeing decreased work with less oil and gas activity. The title community was basically being supported by the gas well drilling for the last decade. The Air Base is probably living on borrowed time anyhow with the B-52 older than most of its pilots and not really needed in wartime.

quick side bar question. Is the government filling up the strategic oil petro storage facilities to ultra capacity now that oil is cheap? actually I can guess the answer. king Obama has only hurt the US will malicious intent. The answer is probably NO. I would guess he is probably having it pumped out and sent to Iran or Libya.
One google search would have saved you the embarrasment of these comments. I hate Obama as much as the next guy, but come on.......

I'd like to know when my groceries are going to get cheaper like everyone said they would

These profit hungry corporations are screwing us; I hope all grocery employees get fired for bleeding us dry for so long.

First to get hit is waiters with me. I am a huge tipper. Ot has taught me to say screw everyone else. If I'm not making my day rate waiters get crappy tips.

The economy was terrible for years while gas prices were outrageous. The economy has been recovering while gas prices have been dropping. The falling prices haven't made it worse, and piping projects around here are full steam ahead.

Many of the reasons that most groceries won't go down are the same reasons that oil was held high for so long
It's because there is a constant demand
It's because there is a constant demand

I'm sure the state has a plan to increase gas taxes if the prices stay down
That would be news to me.

It will happen. The infrastructure of our country sucks. Uncle Sam will see it as a chance to fix the roads
